Lack of weapons?

Pickens, they in the running for Tyler Boyd and could select a receiver in a loaded WR draft and have Friermuth.
As of right now they just have Pickens and Freiermuth. They aren’t deep at receiver at all. There will be major QB controversy in Pittsburgh this year, I guarantee it. Getting Russ and Fields isn’t a long term solution for the Steelers, Russ is an upgrade from what they had last year, but he’s aging, and Fields is a bona fide bust. So its a slight upgrade for the Steelers but to act like these are brilliant moves is ridiculous. The Steelers are still the weakest team in the very strong AFC North.

I'm perfectly fine giving up a future 6th for Fields.

Just didn't want to spend a premium pick, especially this year.

Good deal.
Yep I am fine with that pick for Fields. Other than that not at all.

I doubt Pittsburgh trades for Fields.

They told RW he would be the starter and there would be no competition. Fields would be too high profile.

Thr Bears won 5 of their last 8 games and Fields was a huge reason for that.

Hey! We have Calvin Austin the Third, and Van Jefferson, too.

I was wrong. About as wrong as you were on Jimmy G on being a good QB.

LOL.

Both #3 receivers.....at best.

But, Boyd or one of the receivers in the draft could be a really solid #2. This draft is loaded with quality WR's.

The only way he plays if Wilson is hurt. So I don’t see this hurting them. If he starts and plays well it is then worth but honestly I don’t see it.
...or if someone else gets aggressive after their own QB gets hurt. They now have an easily tradeable Wilson with virtually no cap hit.

Jimmy G is a better QB than Fields. Jimmy G started Super Bowl 54 and was in the NFC Title Game in 2021. It’s doubtful Fields ever starts a playoff game.
Oh, I dont blame the Steelers at all for making the trade. Future 6th is next to nothing
Agreed, I don’t blame the Steelers for making the trade, other than it will create some QB drama even though Russ is clearly the guy. Some dummies in their fanbase who think Fields is the future will clamor for him as soon as Russ struggles, and QB controversy is rarely a good thing.

For now, yes. But depending on if they want to keep him it could be a mistake if they never give him any playing time.

Renting him for a 6th for one year is OK but if they don’t plan on extending him, why even make the trade?

Either you let him walk and waste a 6th which isn’t a big deal, or you have to pay big money for his fifth year option and unless he sets the world on fire if he gets to start he hasn’t exactly shown he deserves it

A 6th round pick is not a steep price to pay to get a very good look at a guy that a few years ago scouts were drooling over. Now the Steelers get a first hand look at the guy and see if there is something there they can build on. Fields needed a change of scenery for sure and the Steelers are in need of a QB for the future if Russ is truly washed. To me, that's a pretty good lease agreement and now they have a year to figure out if they want to buy out the lease or just turn it in and walk away.

Now I'm going to LOL at the Bears fans that earlier in the week were still saying 2nd or 3rd rounder for Fields...LOL...2nd rounder???? LMAO....

Good point. They are in a no loose situation now at QB.

I’m just having fun.

Pit is making really good moves at QB. Not that Wilson or Fields are particularly good, but acquiring both have cost them almost nothing.

If they both fall flat on their face, it’s one lost season for Pittsburgh and they find another QB next offseason. If either one of them succeeds, the Steelers are set.

Steelers had a decent backup in Warren behind Harris, but I guess in the event both go down it's not bad having a 3rd RB option for fairly cheap. I'll give it a B+ grade for the Steelers.

They do need to find a decent backup for Wilson though when he eventually craps the bed.

Fields was a much better QB this past season.

Landing Fields for a future 6th round pick is a steal. Can't believe how low his stock has dropped.

Jimmy G‘s career has been derailed by injuries. When he was healthy, in the 2019 and 2021 seasons, he was pretty good. Fields is an epic bust who can’t throw. Again, Jimmy G led the Niners deep into the postseason twice and was playing pretty well in 2022 when he got hurt. Fields will never sniff the postseason unless as a backup.
