You take your guy when you can IMO. I've seen this kind of maneuvering bite the Rams in the past, gambling on trading down then losing their target LB Bobby Wagner (to a division rival no less).

QB isn't a position where you just take the next available guy if you can avoid it. If it was, Russell Wilson would probably still be Denver's starter.
But what if you’re not 100% sold on him? What if the difference on your board between the #5 QB and #6 QB isn’t a big difference?

The Broncos need more draft capital due to their salary cap. I’m not sure they won’t be tempted by trading back, especially if it get them a few extra picks this draft, and/or an additional first round pick next year.

and if you are not sold on him, then why would you draft him in the first place??

Maybe because you got him later in the draft when you have less choices and/or less trade value with the pick?? Isn’t that how the draft works?

You mean to trade away the pick or to take Nix in the late first round? (If they traded the pick and he was still available)

Just for full transparency, the Broncos have the #12 pick, and their next pick isn’t till #76. So to trade up, they will likely have to go into next years draft picks or trade away what few picks they currently have.

You sure you want to make that bet?
Do you still want to make that bet? I don’t see them trading up with such little draft capital, but I’ve already been wrong a few times today, so you likely would win the bet. :suds:@MilkSpiller22

The only problem with that is their biggest need is QB IMO. It's not typically a position where a team will just be happy with whomever falls to them, they will want a specific guy. If their guy is there at #12 (unless they want someone well out of the 1st round range like Rattler), can they afford to trade down and risk losing that QB target? Trying to game the system to get your QB at better pick value could really backfire.

No doubt it could backfire in a big way. I suspect that if a QB that they want is there at 12, they'll take him. They're just in a tough position with very little draft capital and making it worse is the fact that they've had very few picks for the last couple of years. The RW trade will definitely go down as one of the worst in NFL history. Maybe he bounces back for the Steelers and they have nothing to lose since the Broncos are paying for them to find out.

I could see that. I take it riding with Stidham is popular for the same reason?
There are definitely fans that say they should go with Stidham. Not because anyone thinks he'll be the answer but more to keep filling holes, arguably suffer through a rough season this year and come out in better shape for the 2025 draft/season.

That’s why I think they aren’t going all in on a QB this season. Payton has a long runway in Denver. He knows he has to build through the draft because of the salary cap problems the next few years. It would likely take 3 full bad seasons before he would see the hot seat. So he has time.

I like Nix and think he could be a very good QB, but he won’t get that chance unless he has a solid team around him. The best case scenario for him, in my opinion, is Denver trading back, getting 3-4 nice picks in return, and then getting him late in the 1st round. Just my two cents.

I would agree not in the 1st (although I wouldn't put it past Seattle), but they'd be 100% playing it correctly with Penix sitting a year and letting Geno start.

McCarthy and Penix can probably be the best QBs of this class, but they 100% require sitting for their first year. Daniels is Fields 2.0, Williams is Ryan Leaf 2.0, Maye could be good but sadly will be forced to start on a shit ass team (especially if Wash drafts him). McCarthy will get drafted by the Vikings which will be a fuckin' disaster.

on your laziness :becky:
No positions by names for those of us stupid on college players Names. Shame on you :heh: (Now I had to do research on names instead being allowed to be lazy)
Also being lazy on Cowboys pick. Every Mock has Cowboys taking a LT because we lost ours. No forethought at all.
Our weakest position is Center. So if we go offense in the 1st I agree it will be OL but should be whoever the top center on the board is.

Fautanu has experience as a guard.

Are we sure that center is important enough to take rd1? (old jokes die hard)

I'm all in on Sweat. He's on the Bengals radar too.

Rather, I talked myself to be all in on Sweat because no way Murphy falls that far.

I just hope to get a 3rd rounder and a NT out of Higgins trade. That's probably his max value anyways.
