The draft is always the big event of the spring with free agency a very close second.

We are 61 days from the open market on free agents and as of January 2024, the New England Patriots are expected to have around $100 million in cap space to spend in 2024. The 2024 NFL salary cap is $256 million, which is up from the $224.8 million in 2023.

Let's openly discuss what the team needs and who that money should and eventiually does buy.

I think I'd start by trying to get Kyle Dugger and Michael Owenu to sign before they become free agents and offer Josh Uche a decent contract.

That could eat up about $30M but would leave a pile to get at least one top WR and a solid #2.
I'd go hard for Ridley, Evens, G. Davis and Osborn.

If I was successful in resigning Owenu, I'd take a shot at both Donovan Smith and Becton.

I think that there would still be between #30M - $40M to get fill-ins and fillers for the holes that would still be in the roster.

ODDBALL IDEA: Try to sign Jackoby Brissett with him knowing that he'd always be the 3rd, non roster QB. BUT he'd also be the QB Coach and let him work with then QBs and teach them what they'll be facing and be a resource on the sideline every game.

We need to resign Onwenu and Duggar. Ueche is all but gone......
I'm not thrilled with overpaying for WR's - we have already tried that!
Becton sucks. Why would you want him?
Would Donavan Smith be a bridge and would he take a 1 year contract?
We let Elemanuer walk and he is better than either of these guys?????

Here's one list of the top ten in every position

I'll take QB #2 and WR's #1 &#2 please to start.
Resign TE #3 and replace TE #4 with TE #2, Resign Tackle #1 and accept your recommendations on any other T or G.

Then go into the draft looking for WR (MHJ), Oline (Alt or....it's deep), TE (Brock Bowers), QB (Maye if we hit on all others in FA, someone else later if we get Mayfield and miss on other positions).

its all guess work right now :suds:

The NFL Management Council's memo sent on Thursday indicated that could be the case again.
"The Management Council and NFLPA are in the process of addressing open matters that will impact the 2024 Salary Cap and therefore will not be able to project a range for the 2024 Salary Cap until those issues are resolved," the memo said. "The 2024 Salary Cap will be announced by memorandum, as has been done over the past two years, as soon as we are able to reach agreement but we do not anticipate that occurring until after the New Year."

While I can appreciate your idea I have a really hard time believing Jacoby doesn't consider himself a starter or at the very worst a backup behind a top tier QB. Is he worse than Kenny Picket? Geno Smith? I imagine he considers himself better than at least 50% of the starting QB's in week 17.

He's gonna want quality QB2 money and he deserves it IMO. If your starter goes down he can fill in and not lose games for you.

Hell, if we got a quality starter I'd bring him in as the backup in a heartbeat. Good dude. Great work ethic. Genuinely liked. Plenty of starter experience.

If I only had a few Patriots items, I’d do the same thing. I literally have a Patriots themed room. Clothes…. Mugs….car decor…. I can’t even imagine how much money I have in Patriots gear. For ever I got Patriots stuff for my birthday.. Xmas.

What’s weird though is that my most valued Patriots item that I’ve had for 37 years or so is the News Paper with the Patriots first Super Bowl. It has a dejected Tony Eason…. The Fridge celebrating his TD. I know it’s a bad memory for the most part. But it’s one of my oldest memories. Don’t get much Patriots news or games in Idaho in the late 70’s early to mid 90’s. So I’ve held onto it.
