He would be well suited for that 3-3-5 defense that is rumored. He is going in round 1 though so I dont see us using number 7 on him. Maybe if we trade back.

agree he's suited for the alleged/supposed type of defense they'll run.

nope, not going to be picked at No.7

Only possibility to be drafted by us and with value would have to begin somewhere in the teens, imo

there'll be umpteen changes in media mocks but sure would like to see something like this happen or even twice for us in upper top 10-15 picks (depending upon who's still available at No.7)

Todd McShay 2-round mock: Detroit Lions trade down, still land stud WR - Pride Of Detroit

Let’s take a look at how the mock draft played out leading up to the Lions’ selection. No surprises at the top, as the Jacksonville Jaguars select QB Trevor Lawrence with the first pick and the New York Jets land QB Zach Wilson with the second. There’s a bit of a surprise with pick No. 3 when the San Francisco 49ers take QB Mac Jones, but it’s not that far out of the box. TE Kyle Pitts lands in Atlanta, WR Ja’Marr Chase goes to Cincinnati, while Miami takes WR DeVonta Smith.

With quarterbacks Trey Lance and Justin Fields still available, McShay has the Lions fielding phone calls for the pick, but because three of the four top pass catchers are already off the board, they don’t want to trade too far back. Enter the Carolina Panthers, who in an effort to block teams from jumping them, trade picks No. 8 and No. 73 (third round) to acquire pick No. 7 from the Lions.

This is a nice deal for the Lions as they gain a Day 2 pick this year, while still being able to land the player they would have likely targeted at No. 7. And with the No. 8 pick in the draft, the Lions select Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle.

at No. 41 McShay selects Missouri LB Bolton. He needs to be kept clean in between the hashes and he's not all that good in coverage, imo. He struggles to get off blocks but he can weave his way through traffic at times.

Bolton (5-foot-11, 237 pounds) didn’t test as athletic as he plays, and he is undersized for the position, but he flows to the ball with ease and hits like a Mack truck. He still needs to develop parts of his game, but he has the potential to be a player that doesn't have to leave the field.

This would be perfect.

Yes, it would.

I've been going back over shortened game versions (20 - 30 Minutes) with Elijah Molden, Amari Rodgers and I still have D'Wayne Eskridge to view but I'm Firm with either Waddle in round 1 or Elijah Moore in what might end up being round 2 somewhere (unless D'Wayne Eskridge blows me away for a possible somewhere 3rd round value once I get into his games)

Having watched pretty much every bama game in it's entirety over the last 4-5 years, I know what Waddle can do even with him going down in game 5 last year. That injury and lost games doesn't matter to me. He's electric and explosive.

Goff needs him or Moore, as a starting point, than any other WR in this draft, imo.

Defensive prospects for the Lions shine at Kentucky’s pro day (usatoday.com)

Davis was a late bloomer for the Wildcats. He only emerged as a starter late in 2019 but his game tape from 2020 is outstanding. In watching five Wildcats games, his breadth of ability at least equaled what Parsons put on display in 2019 at Penn State outside of rushing the passer, which is not something Kentucky had Davis do often.

I really like Davis. I would be fine in round 2 with him. Especially if the rumored trade happens and we have 2 picks.

Bateman can play all over the field. I was hoping his size would push him to the 3rd round but no chance of that now.

I've watched too much standing around and not getting involved whether it was his run fit and mostly in shallow zone coverages.
Literally looking confused (bama game highlighted this for me). He's got on field speed to burn but is more dip, swerve to get out of the trash. He's raw still having less than 15 games (i think) as actual starter.

He's not horrible just doesn't have many starts under his belt.

He was listed as 6'2 210 on Minnesota site so, I was disappointed to see his final height/weight measurements.

I'll question my thought he'd become a WR1. He doesn't possess the physicality at LOS or downfield like J. Chase shows.

He's still a top 3 route runner in this class. He'll catch the contested throws having good - not great - hands

The Lions sure could use, at a minimum, an extra 3-4 draft picks this year.

BTW not in order of need

RT
RG/OT - combo player - CFB OT that will have to slide inside but "could play RT in a pinch"
WR1
WR - slot
WILL - higher coverage skills and sure tackler over run defender
MIKE (not completely necessary this year but would be great to have in-waiting for 2022 and most definitely 2023)
DT - 3-tech
DT - 0/1-tech
CB - slot
..S - with damn good coverage skills (due to split safety) but must be better than just average at run defense/tackling

@Old Lion Here's a couple shortened versions Bama Offense vs Kentucky defense and Georgia Offense versus Kentucky Defense.

He's #5 and be careful because the WILL/SAM is #6. It can become confusing. Davis has the speed to stick with the TE/RB but these two will show what I'm talking about. He's able to get in on tackles asst. or limited solo but you'll see his ass on the ground quite a bit or get manhandled. There's some good mixed in here but I'm really hesitant when it comes to LB.

tbh, I'm more in favor of head smart/field smart Werner over every damn LB in this class. He doesn't show as much field speed but he's mostly near or around the ball to make or assist on a play. jmo.

Zaven Collins unofficial #'s so far

6'5 259
vert - 35"
40 - 4.67 (I figured as much based on live game field speed) would still be a damn good Mike and float around to other LB spots
BP - 19

Humble kid. would fit well with Pit, GB, Bal, imo

Western Michigan Bronco WR D'Wayne Eskridge #1

he'll line up at X, Z and Slot. It's only versus MAC competition but you can see his burst of LOS in first 10 ten yards
