My guess is bulking up based on that weight and those bench reps. Still would love to get him especially if the shit 40 drops his value.

Could be weight gain, crappy start and the list goes on. Tape says otherwise with his explosiveness - forward or lateral.
I question the times (40/3-cone) because of that tape. Is it a discipline/dedication problem. He was one of the 1st to opt out.
He's had months to work on it.

The alleged weight gain issue could be as simple as what Allim McNeil expressed in his interview series

Alim McNeill: 2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview Series | The Draft Network

I’ve already lost all of my weight. I played this season at around 340 pounds. I’m 325 pounds right now. I feel a lot lighter right now. I’m quicker on my feet.

JM: Wow. Your biography on NC State’s webpage had you listed at 320. That’s a big difference.

AM: Yeah, I don’t know why they have me listed at 320 (laughs). I played this past season between 335 and 339. I haven’t weighed 320 pounds since my sophomore season. I think they just never updated the page, to be honest.

Any possible day 3 QBs anyone you guys like?

Jamie Newman - Athletic with a nice arm, but sat out the season
Kyle Trask - 6 months ago he was being talked about as a 1st rounder
Kellen Mond - Another athletic guy with an arm, but needs a lot of coaching(So probably not for us)
Ian Book - smart character guy that should be a great backup
I’m all for Trask once a couple contributors are grabbed.

Book late would be cool too. I’m just fine with giving good QBs a chance instead of paying guys we all know will lose.

I would have taken Trask as a backup but now that we spent millions on one there is no sense. Newman is a 7th round pick maybe or a UDFA because he has some tools but is a complete unknown. He will have to learn a ton.

I am moving on from QB at this point. Maybe next year there is a prospect that might work.

Alabama WR DeVonta Smith, a potential top-10 pick in the NFL draft, says small stature not a problem (espn.com)

After several questions from reporters Monday, Smith revealed that he weighs 170 pounds.

One of the top prospects in the 2021 draft, Smith is expected to be a first-round pick. The lingering question is how much his thin frame will impact his ability to be a top-5 or top-10 pick.

"I feel like it's not going to be any different than college. I have played in the SEC. I feel like it's the toughest conference there is," Smith said. "I know a lot of people that are bigger than me that have more problems than me, so I'm not worried about it at all."

Smith would be the second-lightest receiver taken in the first round of the draft since 1999; the Baltimore Ravens selected Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, who weighed 166 pounds, with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 draft. But there is some precedent: Smith has been compared to Hall of Fame Indianapolis Colts receiver Marvin Harrison by several draft analysts, including ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Mike Tannenbaum. Harrison weighed in at 181 pounds at his combine and played in the 170s.

Other successful receivers who weighed in under 175 pounds also include DeSean Jackson (169 pounds) and Isaac Bruce (173 pounds). Chad Johnson also said on Twitter that he played at 170 pounds while noting Smith was better than him in college.

BTW, McVay clearly stated that when the LAR had Brandin Cooks, Goff was at his best. ? Waddle maybe ?

Meet the 2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle (detroitlions.com)

Waddle's also been one of the best return men in the country over the last few years. In 2019, he averaged a whopping 24.4 yards per punt return, scoring on both a punt and kickoff return that season.

Key observations: 11 of Waddle's 20 career touchdowns went for 50-plus yards. While 20 touchdowns might seem on the lower end for a player considered to be a top 10 pick, Waddle played alongside Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith during his time in Tuscaloosa. Waddle also has a career 19.3-yard punt return average with two touchdowns.

What they had to say about him: "Waddle is a slightly undersized receiver with extraordinary speed and playmaking ability. He has the ability to line up inside or outside. His acceleration in his release is elite. He destroys the cushions he receives from defenders in a hiccup and can find a second and third gear once the ball is in the air. He's at his best on runaway routes, but he flashes the ability to efficiently gear down and work back downhill.

Mel Kiper’s mock draft 3.0: Did the Detroit Lions get the right Alabama WR? - Pride Of Detroit

There’s plenty to like about Smith—his production, route running, and hands are all elite—and the Lions would be a better team for adding him to the roster, but there is also a case to be made for Waddle fitting the wide receiver mold the Lions have been adding this offseason.

What do Williams, Perriman, and recently signed Kalif Raymond all have in common? Speed for days. Williams ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at his pro day, Perriman clocked in at 4.26 at his, while Raymond knocked out a 4.39 and plays even faster.

Neither Smith nor Waddle ran a 40-yard dash at Alabama’s pro day on Tuesday so we have to speculate a bit of what their times may have been. But in previous events, Smith has clocked in at 4.49, while there is video of Waddle running step-for-step with Henry Ruggs who ran an official 4.27 at the 2019 NFL Combine—something that matches up with Waddle’s GPS speeds. Even without firm numbers, it’s clear Waddle is an elite speedster.

Smith is plenty fast and brings a ton of other intangibles to the field, but Waddle can fly as well as being a lethal offensive weapon.

VaTech CB Farley apparently has undergone back surgery #2

"Virginia Tech CB Caleb Farley, a projected first-round pick, will have a microdisectomy Tuesday with noted back-specialist Robert Watkins and will not work out at his pro day Friday"

According to Spine-Health, the microdiscectomy uses minimally invasive techniques and can be done with a relatively small incision and minimal tissue damage or disruption. The outpatient back surgery recovery time is minimal, meaning Farley will likely be able to recover for the upcoming NFL offseason training, following the NFL Draft held in April.

Farley struggled previously with his back and was forced to sit out of Virginia Tech's most recent bowl game against Kentucky in the 2019 Belk Bowl.

It’s believed that Farley underwent a similar procedure in early 2020 after playing through a pinched nerve in his back for most, if not all, of the 2019 season.

If we still had Staff I would want him over Waddle. Not with Goff though. Goff needs big playmakers.

and D. Smith isn't a playmaker ? C'mon now. Smith can get those contested balls that Waddle won't have a shot at. Smith has long arms and big hands. You won't see that out of Waddle anywhere near as much.

I still like Waddle though. It doesn't matter which of those two or even Chase.

Playmaker.
Waddle won't be making this type of catch.

I'd still be happy with Waddle at No.7
