Its crazy how much easier it is for an NFL player to get into the HOF compared to an MLB player.

I'll stick by my 'he'll get in with 2 more good seasons' thought. He definitely isn't in right now. Carson Kelly isn't pushing Yadi as hard as I thought he'd be so there is a chance that it could happen.

He is on the fence... not sure which way to push him... He is top 20 in dWAR(of all positions), this shows that he is seen by advanced stats to be one of the best defensive players... He has the 3rd most gold gloves by a catcher, which shows how respected around the league he is....

AND he is still a current player...

His offense is not great, but certainly better than other defensive catchers like Jim Sundberg and Bob Boone...

I would probably say yes for him...

His 3 year contract extension guarantees he's starting these 3 years as many games as he wants...

I halfway expect him to be the manager before that contract is up

So I'll try this again.

1) He's probably the best defensive catcher of all time
2) He's as clutch as they come on offense, especially in the playoffs.

Name me a better defensive catcher that hit .280+ in his career and has more than 8 golf gloves and 2 rings
Yea that .707 postseason OPS is the stuff of legends. So is that .739 OPS in "late & close" situations, and let's not forget his .711 OPS when his team is behind.

Lol.

Annnnnd Varitek's defense vs. Yadi is laughable. You gonna show offense stats and not defense? For a catcher? :L

Cmon man
both were renowned for the handling of pitching staffs.

both have caught no no's.

Putting Varitek anywhere near the difference of category of yadi is laughable

Sorry I was giving this hot girl the shocker and trying to type on my phone.

Veratek is nowhere near yadi defensively

thing about defensive metrics is people don't trust it at all... But sometimes when the eye test supports the advanced metrics and supports a players reputation... you have to give them the credit...

Varitek, might be known for his defense but he only had one Gold Glove and has a career dWAR of 8.4
Yadi has 8 gold gloves and dWAR of 24... and is still playing, so he might even better both of those...

Ozzie Smith though was a pretty good offensive SS for his day...and he was easily the best defensive SS ever (which you can't say for Molina at C).

Imo, the arguments around Ozzie Smith being in the HOF usually have to deal with who isn't in the HOF.

I'm personally of the opinion that FivethirtyEight has in which there should probably be about 10 more players from that era in the Hall of Fame if voters were looking at things from an era balanced perspective and with less nostalgia.
