I don't see him missing. That is not the same as whether he deserves it.

I don’t know if he deserves it but he’ll get in anyway.

Molina is on a long list of players who are excellent in their own era at their position. This conversation comes around every year for somebody but in his case, he's made the Cardinals a perennial contender. If is is the only reason or the main reason, that's a discussion, I suppose. In my lifetime, I have seen better catchers but I have seen very few in this era who are smarter or more prepared.

Does the Hall of Fame have a pisstest?

Second most obvious juicer of the past ten years behind Ortiz.

career 100 wRC+ (or 99 OPS+, whatever you prefer), 34th all-time among catchers in WAR, awful baserunner even by catcher standards and hit into a ton of double plays. Molina had some good offensive years (especially 2011-13) but he had a decent amount of below average seasons even by catcher standards (2005-07, 2010, 2015). I just don't really see how he's more deserving than someone like Jason Kendall.

Like I said, he probably shouldn't get in, but I can almost guarantee that he will.

I'm not even sure this conversation can start until the end of the 2019 season.

I think if he has 2 more all-star years he might sneak in but thats no guarantee.

This year although it is early....batting .292 with 6 homers and 15 RBI. That doesn't take into account today's 3-4 and a ribbie...average up to .316, All at the age of 35 and years of squatting behind the plate. That said, the jury is out, but I believe when all is said and done, he will get the invite.

He isn't more deserving than Kendall. That would be accurate.

Offensively no, but catchers who are defensively superb and who handle pitchers well get extra consideration. So, my vote is Yes!!

How long are you stuck with that avatar?
Until Tuesday. The only thing that makes me hesitate is skills like framing and gamecalling which aren't easily picked up on or quantified very well in my personal- and knavish- opinion. Still a firm no, but it's not completely absurd like his 100 wRC+ would maybe make you think.

I think there's a pretty good chance he makes it though I don't think it's a total slam dunk. Posada was a much better offensive catcher (granted he also wasn't the defensive catcher Molina was, but I'm not sure that makes up for the offensive gap) and he got 3.8% on his only year on the ballot.
