Most likely good enough offensive numbers for a Catcher and good defensively. Even at 35 still putting up good numbers so that helps a lot.

the thing that makes me hate Molina most is the "OMG HIS INTANGIBLES!!!" talk. this was especially bad in 2006 and 2011.

Until Tuesday. The only thing that makes me hesitate is skills like framing and gamecalling which aren't easily picked up on or quantified very well in my personal- and knavish- opinion. Still a firm no, but it's not completely absurd like his 100 wRC+ would maybe make you think.
agreed. You have to put a lot of faith into framing/defensive stats.

I mean, it's not completely moronic or asinine, it's just kind of hard to believe on its face. Totally ok to be known as one of the better defensive catchers. Hall of pretty good in baseball is damn good; tough hall to be inducted into. I have a feeling Yadi is going to be the new Jack Morris where we have this never ending circular debate about his value.

That framing got a manager go all ape-shit in a game this year.
Damn fucking right- I've been watching Yadi for 10+ years and he gets some of the biggest BS calls I've seen in my short lifetime; and he's good at it. Interesting case of a player.

Catcher envy? Posey is good but let's see where he is in 9 more years. Probably playing 1B.
Molina is decent. Posey is really good; the better all around player.

decent? LMFAO,,,If Yadi is just decent then Posey is Hall Of Good. Posey will not play as many games behind the plate as Molina has....

good for him. Posey's career OPS+ is 36 points higher and he was a much better baserunner than Molina. I'll take Posey.

Molina is a crafty veteran when it comes to base running. Not the fastest but very smart on the bases. I will never convince the Posey fans, but hey...they are both good but to say Molina is "okay" is a disgrace.

Gold Glove count.....as I just said...both are great Catchers and to diss Molina like that is assinine.
He isn't an all-around player. He can't run or hit. He's strictly a defensive player.

He's stolen 58 bases, but he's been caught 34 times... a 63% steal rate is bad (the acceptable success rate for stolen bases is supposedly around 66-72%). His extra base taken percentage is 26%, the league average is usually around 40%. Maybe he is a "crafty" baserunner, but the fact of the matter is he's way too slow to be an asset on the basepaths.

To be fair, Molina's 100 wRC+ is probably historically above average offensively for the catcher position. I wouldn't call him a bad offensive catcher even though he has had some mediocre offensive seasons. But Posey's 134 wRC+ is 4th all-time at the position behind only Piazza, Tenace and Cal McVey (who had only 2543 PA in the 1870s). I'd agree that Molina's gamecalling/defense were better, but I don't think it offsets that kind of offensive gap.
