Best defensive catcher I've ever seen play.
Best pitchers partner.
.284 hitter
8 gold gloves

I think he makes it in the HOF.

The .284 average is about the only notable thing about his offense (short of 2000 hits, 1000 RBI, 150 HR, <100 OPS+, and maybe only 2-3 seasons that can be considered 'great'). His defense has been great, but I don't think it's enough.

Offense always has and always will be worth more than defense (A guy who's an A+ with the bat and C in the field is generally going to be worth more than the guy who's a C with the bat and A+ in the field).

Molina's career offensively needs more work to be HOF worthy imo...

5 Records Yadier Molina Will Hold When He Retires

Post season hits.. 90 -- most by any Cardinal

So what? Bernie Williams has the most postseason RBI (and 2nd most hits) of any player ever, let alone any Yankee....remind me where Bernie's HOF plaque is?

A big reason Molina has 90 playoff hits is because he's played in an era with 3 playoff rounds, hence giving him the chance to be top 10 all time in playoff at bats and plate appearances.

3rd all time all gold gloves. Never forget the game 7 HR off the Mets in the 9th in 2006 to break a 1-1 tie. Dude is/was as clutch as I've ever seen for a catcher.

And all the pick offs? Goodness

Not at all, but the arguments for Yadi are quite farfetched...

A big reason Molina has 90 playoff hits is because he's played in an era with 3 playoff rounds, hence giving him the chance to be top 10 all time in playoff at bats and plate appearances. It's not like he's hitting .320 with power in the playoffs...he's a .286 playoff hitter with just 20 extra base hits in 300+ at bats.

So I'll try this again.

1) He's probably the best defensive catcher of all time
2) He's as clutch as they come on offense, especially in the playoffs.

Name me a better defensive catcher that hit .280+ in his career and has more than 8 golf gloves and 2 rings

Annnnnd Varitek's defense vs. Yadi is laughable. You gonna show offense stats and not defense? For a catcher? :L

According to defensive metrics, he's not....

His career FRAA is +108....both Pudge and Gary Csrter for starters have higher FRAAs (Pudge's is almost 40% higher), and both were better offensively as well.

So if Gary Carter was arguably better defensively and was much better offensively and took 5+ years to get in the HOF, what should that tell you about Molina's chances?

Again, is a guy who at the most had only 2-3 great seasons a HOF player?

Could take Yadi a bit to get in, the guys in front of him are all in the HOF. GC had 3 gold gloves? Yadi has 8

Gold Gloves are subjective...I mean, Jeter has 4 and he was anything but good defensively. Rafael Palmeiro won a gold glove playing just 30 games in the field...would you say those were good calls? :nono:

Guys routinely win GG's based on reputation when they're no longer great defensively (ie - Torii Hunter, Jim Edmonds, Pudge, Sandberg, Vizquel etc), so it's not really a great measure....

Carter was unluckly to play at the same time in the same league as Bench, who before Pudge was considered the best defensive catcher ever...that doesn't mean Carter wasn't great defensively...

So you're claiming that Molina > Carter defensively because Molina has 5 more gold gloves, but when Pudge has 5 more gold gloves than Molina, you're claiming that Molina is better defensively (considering you've said Molina is probably the best defensive catcher ever)...

So are gold gloves your measuring stick in one case but not the other?

Did I say that? No I didn't. I am saying the guys in front of Yadi defensively (not many) are in the HOF
