Kyle Pitts had an outstanding workout at Florida's Pro Day - ProFootballTalk (nbcsports.com)

A couple of the top receiving prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft got a chance to show off for NFL scouts on Wednesday and both of them impressed.

Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase may have solidified his spot as the top player at that position with a 4.38 40-yard dash, an 11-foot broad jump, and a 41-inch vertical leap while working out at LSU. Kyle Pitts has little competition at the tight end rankings and his workout at Florida’s Pro Day won’t change that.

The 6’5″, 245-pound Pitts was timed at 4.44 in the 40-yard dash, a broad jump of 10’9″ and a 33.5-inch vertical leap. His wingspan was also measured at over 83 inches, which is longer than any other wide receiver or tight end who was measured at the Combine in the last 20 years.

Pitts will certainly be the first tight end taken in April. His size, speed, and ability to create mismatches for defenses makes him a strong contender to be the first non-quarterback taken as well.

Meet the 2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Northwestern OL Rashawn Slater (detroitlions.com)

Key observations: Slater is the No. 7 overall prospect in NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah's ranking of the top 50 players in the draft. He's the best offensive tackle on that list.

Slater opted out of the 2020 season, but in a full season in 2019 he allowed zero sacks, one quarterback hit, and five hurries, totaling just six pressures in 11 games started at left tackle.

He played both left and right tackle at Northwestern, so he's got some position flexibility. He started 37 games total in his college career.

What they had to say about him: "Slater is a five-star player with a nearly flawless technical game. He neutralizes pass rushers with his quick hands and superb footwork while displaying enough nastiness to finish off his run blocks with violence." - NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks

BB_72: BTW, Riley Reiff had 33.25" arm length. It worked out just fine for him.

easily my favorite S in this entire draft class. I believe he can be moved around to a WILL in certain situations even though his weight is considered on the light side for that position.

BTW at least two S have been drafted in every single draft since 2011 but two ( none in 20211 and none in 2020)

Should've been written as, at least two S have been drafted in the 1st round in seven of last 10 drafts and one S drafted in 1st round only in 2015. None were drafted in the 1st round in 2011 and 2020.

the above two posts made me wonder how important the S position will be for DC and Aaron Glenn when it comes to how early they might draft one. I doubt they draft a S in the 1st round - outside of some sizeable trade down and I don't see that happening. I suspect if the right player and value is there at either of picks 41 or 72 it becomes reality.

I'm looking at four possibilities for LB that the Lions would consider

1st round Parsons - could happen should Pitts/Chase be gone before No.7

2nd - early 3rd round - OSU LB Baron Browning as a future Mike to replace J. Collins - extremely athletic, excellent blitz, needs a year to get better at run fills and coverage recognition. Werner played more than Browning during their time at OSU and the former has the higher field IQ but Browning shows more athleticism on the field. Browning is closer to J. Collins athletic ability than Werner, imo

3rd day WILL - Pete Werner or Garrett Wallow. Werner has more experience on the field and could be used at any one of the four LB spots (Jack or SAM would be more in line with minimal snaps/plays. Wallow only has two years at LB after having played S prior so, there might be a higher projected ceiling for him but most likely only at the WILL position.
