how about we just give them the 4 first rounders and call it a day

Exactly. I'd much rather be absolutely STACKED with young talent all over the ice than weaken our depth at every position just to acquire Weber AND have a shot at Doan.

Timonen only has this coming season left anyway. We're going to need guys like Meszaros, Coburn, Grossmann and L. Schenn for the following season and beyond.

Plus, the fucking Preds are bluffing. I don't see them matching, regardless of what we do. It's in their best interest to bluff and try to get guys like Couturier, Schenn, Meszaros, Read or Voracek from us.

Regardless of what that article suggests, I think Nashville has backed off a bit on their "match guarantee" by waiting this out so long and stating that they will do what is best for the franchise in the short and long term.

I do not expect them to match. It's too much money in too short of a time frame and it's far too risky if Weber doesn't want to play for Nashville anymore following the departure of Suter and subsequent failures to pay him or trade him.

I'd love nothing more than Homer to call their bluff and make them take the 1st round picks.

Just got told by 1 NHL Exec it looks like Preds will match Weber offer sheet. "Unless,Flyers are prepared to make a great trade"#doubtful

lol It is in THEIR FAVOR to BLUFF. I'll believe that they matched when they actually DO match and start paying Weber $27 million in year one. Either way, it was a very smart move by Homer.

Besides, if Nashville liked Weber THAT much and can definitely afford him, why not match on day ONE to reassure him and all of your fans that you will not be bullied by a large-market team? The sooner, the better on both of those fronts. Instead, you're making it agonizing for ALL fans, plus probably Weber and his agent too.

I agree. This is high stakes poker. Who will blink first? I'd rather blink first and trade some pieces instead of not getting Weber...

I'm sure Homer is willing to talk, but it would be painful for him to give up three quality starters for Weber (one starter) just to get a few of the picks back.

I mean, if you're just consolidating Meszaros, Voracek and Read plus a 1st into Weber, I don't think it's THAT much of a benefit to our team in the short and long term. And if they STILL want Schenn and/or Couturier, Homer shouldn't even be in the discussion.

I say let Snider go down as being "diabolical".No way in hell do I want to see guys like Coots,Schennx2,Read,Wellwood,etc go to the Preds.

Worse case scenario-they match.Homer can then go to the other 28 teams to try to find his stud dman.

Nope, #1 stud d-men like Weber do not grow on trees and the teams that are lucky enough to have one are not so willing to let them go.

I think saying "take the four picks or nothing" is foolish. We may not have an opportunity like this come along again for a long time.

I would not trade Coots or Schenn but if Nashville wants something like Mez, Voracek, Gustaffson/Bourdon, picks then I would do it.

YES. I happen to like the young core of forwards we have. They gained a ton of experience in the playoffs this past season and will only get better. I also happen to like the incredible depth we'd have on defense with Weber. Inevitably, someone will get injured and we'll be glad to still have a strong top six regardless.

Fuck Nashville. Let them either pay Weber $110 million or take the damn picks. That's how this shit works. They jerked off for too long and let it come to this, now the heat should be on them, not us to make them the "right" offer.

If they can't match, they can't match. What we do or don't offer them won't change that.

For some it may seem foolish-but you have to be a hard ass at times.

I don't like the addition by subtraction scenario, espescially at defence.
If they have to give up players, then a few young forwards at best IMO.If they are adamant about a defenceman ,I'd go Gus or Bourdon.

Hold out on Mez as a last option.

Well, then if we're going by that then we probably aren't going to get him. That's why most offer sheets are unsuccessful.

I totally disagree that offering them something won't change their minds. Poile HAS to get something more than draft picks. The ball is in Homer's court at this point. We'll see how bad he wants Weber.

Weber is def worth trading Voracek, Mez, etc. Even with that Nashville wouldn't be getting the full trade value of Weber.

I agree. I would NOT include Meszaros, Coburn, Grossmann, Couturier or either Schenn in a potential trade. Quite frankly, the heat is on Nashville to be able to pony up the money and match, not us to make the right pitch.

That's one way to look at it but giving up Mez for Weber is only going to make the guy better.

Like I've said before, it's a hell of a lot easier to find a guy like Meszaros than it is to find a guy like Weber to add to the team.

Yeah, but it's not just Meszaros for Weber. If it were that simple, we'd be all over it. You're also likely giving up two young forwards with a lot of potential and a 1st, plus then you have to pay Weber $110 million and deal with his cap hit.

If I'm Homer, there is NO way in hell I am giving the Preds what they want AFTER I've signed their RFA. It's their turn to either man up and match or step down.

Ok, but like I said with that deal Nashville still wouldn't be getting the true trade value of Weber. The Flyers are not going to get him for nothing aka four draft picks.

Nashville wants too much for Weber. Unless they've backed off on their requests, Homer isn't going to budge. Even if you disagree that Nash is of the same caliber a player, his trade has pretty much set the price on Weber.
