I would love to have listened to the call Jon made to Jay after Jon worked with KC.
Probably went something like this:
Bro, you are screwed. Shanahan was right. Cousins is going to be a good QB in this league. But you are going to have to put your job on the line because your boss loves the other guy. Good luck.....and pass the potatoes.

Dude, you've convinced me. I think KC came a long long way last year, but I can't say I am 100% convinced that he is past his early transgressions. I need to see him do it again this year. I don't mean that he has to play to the same level as he did those last 10 games (that was as good as it gets), but I need to see consistency and I expect him to be in the top 10 or 12 QBs in the league. But I will also say that I am very optimistic that he will. And that is because of how he did it. As you pointed out, he did it thru hard work and learning. Think about the first 3 years he was here. He was an after thought and got scrub time. When he did get a chance, he was inconsistent at best and folded under the pressure at worst. Many would have naturally become unsure and taken a step back. He didn't. He manned up. He hired a QB coach on his own dime and worked all off season. He paid Jon Gruden to also work with him. He understood that he was going to get another chance because he knew he was a better QB in this offense than Griffin was. Once training camp started, it was clear who worked hard in the offseason to improve their game. He fought much adversity and rose above it. I just admire the heck out of the guy.

Yea definitely. If there's one reason I have faith in the guy it's everything you just said. I wonder how many players in the league really have that approach and how many of them are successful.

And if IM Cousins, I tell SM thats great for Brock. I on the other hand will take my chances for $20 million guaranteed and we can revisit this in 12 months.

KC way outplayed Brock last year. IF SM tries to use this contract as leverage, KC just plays under the tag this year.

Yep, seems like standard operating procedure for 'starter' QB salary these days. With cap going up and the position being so important, you have to pay, elite or not.

I don't think he's a good quaterback at all. His record has no impact on that imo.

You are welcome to believe that but I am not sure how that can be stated based off his actual play. He looked very comfortable in the Denver offense and his numbers would have been better if Thomas didn't have a major struggle with drops this season.

i am not ready to jump to any conclusion on him after a mere 7 games . so far so good is all i can say . we will have a better read on him after the league gets some good tap on him and if he can adjust to what they find out about him

Excerpt

"I never played football thinking about money, and going forward I never want to play football thinking about money," Cousins said. "That's why I think it's important for me to play with a salary that's just locked in. I don't want to be thinking about individual accomplishments or rewards that would boost my salary or up my numbers. I just want to go out and play football and try and win games. So whether I'm making what I made last year [$660,000] or this year, I just want to play football and treat it like I did back in high school and love playing. It's a tremendous blessing to be paid to play this game the way I will this year."
