I see this being one of two things:
1) Ottawa is confident in their offer and so is basically saying "go ahead and check" or
2) Karlsson has made it clear that he's done in Ottawa so they're making sure they'll get maximum return by guaranteeing he re-signs long term with whoever they trade to.

For the sake of the Ottawa fans, I hope it's #1. As a fan of a division team, I hope it's #2.

The Penguins did the rest of the NHL a solid by locking him up for a long time.
Just think they got out of Hunwicks salary to take this on...let that sink in for a little while....

I have to wonder if any offer other than Pittsburgh came in. I doubt it.

So, Pittsburgh took a guy we'd likely never have to see again and kept him in the league for 5 years.

Well, two before he develops a "skin condition"

Tavares to the Leafs is a heck of a pickup for Toronto. If they can fix that defense I could see them as one of the top 2 or 3 cup favorites.

I didn’t have much free time this weekend since I went on a 36 hour bender celebrating landing JT so I’ve been browsing through some boards this morning.

I always thought the funniest part of the JT saga no matter where he landed would’ve been the delusional Habs fans who thought they had a chance in hell of getting him finally allowing the reality of their situation to sink in but I have to say I have found the reaction of Sharks fans far more insane than anything I could have ever imagined. These people are straight up PISSED at JT. It’s actually kinda scary.

The Sens offered less than the Doughty deal. No wonder they're letting him negotiate elsewhere.

Oh I doubt it also. That was the first offer they gave him and before GMJR got it completely out of his mouth, JJ's Agent said "YES!".

As for the skin condition can he just get that now. Maybe he can go hang out at Hossa's summer home for the next few weeks.
Man Hossa has a great retirement gig if he wants to help NHL teams get out of bad contracts.

Too add Torts should be smart. When CBJ plays the Penguins and JJ is on the ice they should not touch him. The more he is on the ice and healthy the greater the value he has for the opponents.

They have the cap space to pull it off, but they have lost some key players from the team in the last few days.

They still have a metric fuck ton of assets though.
