By opting for a modest kicking of the salary-cap can in 2024, the Cowboys embark on the last year of quarterback Dak Prescott's contract at a cap number of $55.455 million.

If the cowboys decide to let him play out the deal, that'll be interesting. He's counting 55.4M against the cap this year and he'll count 50M+ against the cap in 2025 whether he's on the team or not. Dallas can't tag him and he has a no trade clause. Unless Dallas plans to go with Trey Lance in 2025...

Prescott is being paid $34M this year. There is $61.915M that has previously been paid to Prescott that hasn't yet been accounted for. The Cowboys are accounting for $55.455M this year and plan to account for the remaining $40.46M next year if Prescott does not re-sign. Most would say the Prescott has been paid fairly and in line with market expectations over the last 3+ seasons. It's less difficult to account for such sums when the cap is $255M and whatever it will be in 2025 compared to the $182M and $208M as it was in 2021 & 2022. That's the point of delaying the hits.

Prescott has Void $ through 2028... if not resigned for 2025, does all that money hit in 2025? That would be my assumption and does not stay in 2026, 2027, 2028.

The figures in orange are amounts of money already paid but not yet accounted for. The years are when the hits are scheduled to be accounted for if Prescott is still on the team. If he is not on the team the hits accelerate into the earliest possible cap year. The $1M figures for 2027 & 2028 are new. They relate to a $5M bonus paid to Prescott in March 2024. For cap purposes they are split into 5 yearly $1M hits.
