i think hes salty because the teams in the middle to late 2000's weren't all that great. they were good to make the playoffs but never good enough to actually compete for a cup.

04-09? the carolina melt down those teams were nothing all that special IMO and "wasted" his chances at a 4th cup

I think Marty is pretty spot on actually, though I don't think he needed to say it after his first game with St Louis. But I'm guessing he meant recent Devil teams, not the teams from the first half or so of his career. The early 2000's teams, as was pointed out on here, were some of the most skilled teams in the league.

Even the 2012 cup run team, outside of Kovy And Parise, it was straight hard work and getting hot at the right time as the reason they got there. Guys like Poni, Gio, and Clarkson playing way better than they should have been.

That said, the Devils benefited from Marty just as much as Marty benefited from playing for the Devils. So to say that to reporters, kind of an unnecessary jab.

marty is all about the stats. it could be a dig at the entire time he was with us.

obviously the 99-01 teams were the most stacked ever.

you could really make an argument he is taking a shot at all the teams that underachieved. 2 teams in the late 90s that got booted in the first round. how many more countless squads in the 00's that got booted in the 1st 2nd rounds because they didnt have the tools?

when you look at the playoff games and wins by a goalie roy has him beat by a mile. 247 games played and 151 wins. marty 205 and 113.
