It’s not often the Washington Commanders do something everyone agrees is a good move. Some even believed that Washington shouldn’t have given defensive tackle Daron Payne a new contract with $60 million guaranteed earlier this week because the team had already re-signed Jonathan Allen.

On Wednesday, the Commanders agreed to terms with quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a one-year contract. The deal gives Washington a veteran quarterback who can push Sam Howell yet take over and win games if Howell proves he isn’t ready in 2023.

Something tells me that despite the potential owner switch, Ron is not looking at this as a rebuild/retool season.

There is no QB budget.

Rush had a better ecord than the other two, You can’t prop up TH with his record and then denigrate Rush who had a better record.

Both offer competition but neither would command veteran favoritism, especially from a RR.

Rush was in the same situation you say Brock Purdy was in @ Frisco. Rush had a good defense, good running game, decent set of WRs. As well as a game plan tailored to protect him. The only differences being is Purdy habitually lit opposing teams up leading the 9ers to 33+ points in 5 of the 6 reg season games he started and throwing 2 TDs or more in every game. Rush on the other-hand didn't light anyone up. His season high for passing yards in a game was 235, He threw more than 1 TD in a game once against the Skins and the only time he passed the ball more than 31 times in a game, 38 times against Philly. He had 3 INTs. In the 4 games he won as a starter the Boys scored 20, 23, 25 and 22 points.

If he beats out Howell, he should start. It needs to be a fair competition.

If he does beats out Howell, then that should be it for Rivera and hopefully the new owner fires him. He would have been given 4 years to identify and develop a QB and he did neither.

Sorry but it should not be an open competition. The job should be SH’s to lose. If SH comes out and totally shots the bed, then yes JB should start. If SH performs decently but JB performs better, then SH should start. It is development. JB is not a bad starting QB. He would likely be around the 25th best in the league. SH is a second year player who has upside. You have to see if that upside is worth further investment because next year’s QB class will be much better than this group.

I wanted Brissett to back up Jimmy G since he is injury prone and Brissett is a solid player.
