I was thinking Matt Williams was a likely candidate or choice when he was fired & Green left to coach the Padres.

As for the other moves so far:

-Bringing back both Collmenter Ziegler was a no-brainer. No matter where you slot him in the BP, Ziegler's deal is probably below market now. While Collmenter had a rough time as a starter, he pitched much better in his familiar longman role. $1.3 mil is not much for a guy who can pitch 2+ innings out of the BP & spot start if needed.

-I think they should let Hernandez find another team. We have too many young arms that need some time in majors for us to waste a BP on him.

-I wouldn't mind bringing Salty back for cheap if he can't find a starting role with another team. I doubt any will give him a starters job.

His arb number was pegged at $1.8 mil. I don't understand why they wouldn't roll with him through spring.

The Diamondbacks are going to have so much money to spend there is no excuse not to sign one of the top starters available.

I thought Palka had more value than a AAA 27 year old catcher.

I wonder if they will just promote Grace & hire another assistant. No mention of why Turner Ward is leaving. I thought he did a good job.

I like this trade if it doesn't include any top 20 prospects from our farm. It's basically a wash in salary for 2016(+$1 mil) & we would add $14 mil for 2017. We have plenty of space to take on that salary for a very good 2B. Just take on all of Phillips salary for a lower prospect. That would free up more of the younger infield guys to be included in a trade for a SP.

I heard there almost a 100 percent chance Phillips vetoes any trade. I would love the trade though. Seems pretty on sided. Aaron Hill is trash and at least Phillips looked capable last season.

I can't believe we found someone to take him & his $6+ mil off our hands. For a top 30(27th) ranked lotto ticket.

D-Backs saving more money. Great. Are they going to spend some on someone that isn't a joke?

Would love Brandon Phillips in a D-Backs uniform, esp if it means the Chris Owings experiment is over.

Marco Estrada just signed a 2-year, $26 million deal. Were the Snakes even in on this guy? Seems perfect for them and at a good price considering his performance last year.

Estrada was tendered a QO by Toronto. No way is he worth the 13th pick in the draft. Also, he is a #3 SP, we already have enough of those.

Ah, got ya.

Based on this year, Estrada would have been the Dbacks ace. He's a #3 guy on a playoff roster. The Dbacks, who we all know won't spend money, do need to target guys like Estrada.
