The Rangers have signed righty Jason Knapp to a minor league deal, tweets Eddy. As MLBTR's Steve Adams recently explained, Knapp is attempting a comeback after washing out of baseball following successive shoulder surgeries. The big hurler was once a top prospect, and headlined the deal that sent Cliff Lee from the Indians to the Phillies. Though he hasn't thrown a professional pitch since 2010, Knapp is just 23 years old and reportedly has managed to build his heater back up into the 90s.

JD just loves these low risk projects.

No reason not to take a shot at guys with no risk and high reward potential. He found gold in Neal Cotts by doing just that.

He was what 18/19 when at AA. So what did he do exactly to be so dorky?

And what makes you think he'll do something stupid, like hang out in bars with Hamilton? I've heard nor read anything which gives him other that a A+ in the character department.

Showed off couple of the Traveler teammates on a couple of occasions. Was basically impressed with himself. Always comes across to me as a guy posing for pictures at every opportunity. Dives, jumps against the wall he didn't need to make (other than the famous one which was against a not that tall wall).

I just don't like him.

Here's the breakdown of the Hanson contract if you haven't seen it:

Hanson’s major league contract is for $500,000 in base pay, but jumps to $2 million if he makes the opening day roster. Since he has minor league options remaining, however, the deal also includes a minor league “split” that would pay him a pro-rated portion of $300,000 for time he’s in the minors. The Rangers could also release him this spring and owe him only $125,000 in termination pay.

Hanson figures to compete with Colby Lewis, Alexi Ogando, Nick Tepesch, Robbie Ross, Tanner Scheppers and Michael Kirkman for two spots at the back of the rotation behind Yu Darvish, Martin Perez and Matt Harrison.

There's some video out on McGrady throwing the baseball. Those reports of ''mid 80's''......just a slight exaggeration. More like mid 60's lol

Buster Olney had this on the Rangers. He also had one for every MLB team on why they should be optimistic for 2014.

They determined their greatest need to be in left-handed hitting, and they added Shin-Soo Choo -- one of the game’s best OBP men -- and Prince Fielder, one of the sport’s best power hitters. This should mean more margin for error for the pitching staff.

Thanks for telling us what we already know Buster.

Saw where Mark Mulder's comeback is already over with a ruptured left achilles tendon.

Richard Durrett: From my untrained eye, looks like Yu Darvish came ready to go. Fastball has life even though it's Day 1.

Thank you....at last some good news.

Not that things aren't looking OK, but the Holland situation has really taken the wind out of our sails, at least on this site. And the only way we can get it back is to get to ST, watching some of the arms step up or out, and make out the lineup card.
