No I don't believe so. I think the 15 million would have been to much for him for a 1 year deal.

If only we can get something for him and not have to eat too much salary.

I would have been fine taking a flyer on him last year but I think after seeing him in Philly this past season, he doesn't have much in the tank so I hope we stay away from him.

Hello all! I see this is where some of the old ESPN regulars landed. Who's still around from the old days? Hope everyone is doing well!

I used to be on the ESPN boards back in the day. Didn't post to much then.

I was around there from the ESPN days. The two big names that I haven't seen on here (or if they are, they have new screen names) are bs and WHG. Not that I think too many people that were from that era miss WHG. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head that I haven't seen here is BigBCherney.

The White Sox are interested in free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera and are considering pursuit, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Other clubs that could make sense for Cabrera, says Heyman, include the Mariners and Orioles. The Royals have been mentioned elsewhere as an outside possibility. And, of course, the Blue Jays still have interest in bringing him back.

Looks like a backup plan if they can't bring back Nick/Cruz.

Wonder what will happen with Cespedes now.

I really don't want Melky signing here. Not that he's a bad player, just doesn't seem like a guy that I'd want in the clubhouse.

Yup, seems like Jays are trying to make a run though. They need starting pitching, I wounder where Lester and Scherzer will end up.

No clue but wherever it is, they're going to have to back up the Brinks truck for all of the money they're going to end up making.

Seriously, sounds like the sox are the only ones spending right now. Cubs keep saying they'll give out the money but it seems strange since they haven't signed anyone yet.

I saw that as well. What's the deal with the Markakis situation? He is asking for an insane amount of money or something? Don't know how big the market is for him.

It's probably a year issue more than a money issue. Nick is now a 9 year veteran, and is on the back end of his career. I imagine we are probably only offering something like a 2 year deal, with a 3rd year option, while he is probably looking for a 4 year contract with a 5th year option. He is looking out for his future, and while I want him back, I can't blame him for looking to secure his future.
