Justin Anderson is also interesting.

Per 36 numbers
Year PPG TS% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG
15-16 11.6 52.2 26.5 80 7.3 1.6 1.1 1.4
16-17 16.7 52.3 30.3 79.5 7.6 1.6 1.4 0.8

Since December, he's hit 27-76 3P (35.6%).
If he's a 2+ steals and blocks guy that can hit the 3 at league average rate off the bench, he's Covington-esque.

Granted, I'm trying to talk myself into this one, but hey...

Anderson is not a bad get at this point ... they weren't going to pay Noel what it would have taken to keep him and it was the right decision to at least get something for him on the way out. He's not even close to being worth big bucks imo.

Didn't realize Justin Anderson was 6' 6" with a 7' wingspan.
I consider this a Hinkie-lite move for Colangelo.

I like Anderson's potential as a solid role player off the bench. He may end up being better overall than Covington.

They have plenty of money to pay Noel $20 million per year. Is that the right decision? I don't know, but he's an NBA starting center and they got pretty much nothing for him. How much would that money have impacted their ability to sign free agents over the next 4 years? Likely not much impact at all since there don't appear to be any top free agents that have any interest in signing here.

That $20 mil could be used to sign Manu Ginobili... fuck BC.

Embiid has to get paid in 2 more years, then Simmons after that.
If Embiid and Simmons are $30M+ players, then you would have $80M+ tied up in 3 players.

You will also have to pay Saric and Covington.
That's why draft picks are important.
It's just not feasible to sign five FA superstars.

It gets tricky really fast, which is why they really couldn't afford to keep Noel.
Sure, they may have been able to trade him down the line, but his value might be even less with a higher contract. Look at what Mozgov, Noah, Biyombo got. Noel is arguably better than all three.

Disagree. The way things are staggered, Noel would have one year left when it was time for Simmons' money to hit the cap. At that point, you can trade him or you can just suck it up for a year and let him walk. Will his value be less? Maybe, but you've now got 3 years out of approaching-prime Noel. I'd argue that if he's any good, his value would be significantly higher by then.

Also, you don't necessarily have to pay Covington. He's probably replaceable at this point. As you noted, we have the draft picks to replace guys like him.

The money issue is bogus. They couldn't afford to pay Noel/Okafor/Embiid/Simmons/Saric/Covington. But once you drop Covington and trade Okafor, it's not really a major problem at that point.

Noel is a FA after this season?

What if "The Process" is to trade him for the pick with the understanding that we sign him after he is a FA?

Restricted free agent. Dallas can match anything we offer and it sounds like they intend to pursue an extension with him.

The key to this trade is Anderson. If he becomes a legit starter or even 6th/7th man then it's a solid trade.

So, you're saying there was no key to the trade from the sixers perspective. I agree.

BC: We're not going to trade someone just to trade them.

Well, this is exactly what he did.

Pretty much. I don't see Anderson being a starter. Maybe a 6th/7th man. Noel is significantly more valuable but will also be paid significantly more.

I just don't think Noel is that good. Around 9 points per game, 5 boards, under a block per game, all of 1 assist per game, below average FT shooter ... other than decent steals for a big I don't see much that can't be replaced. Paying him 20 mil per year for what?

He was at 10 points, 8 boards, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 2 assists in his rookie year.

He got limited run this year and had to play out of position/next to Okafor last year. Does he get $20M? Maybe. Could they have traded him at that time for what they got now? Probably. I'd rather keep him around as they continue to handle Embiid with kid gloves to see if there is more to the problem.
