I am still trying to figure out why some of you are so hell bent on making making major changes to the offense. This team was an average secondary from playing for home field advantage. The Eagles had one one of the best offenses in the NFL and you want to get rid of one of it's best offensive players? Makes no sense.
PG with Shady it's quite simple, when rb's begin to lose it, they lose it fast....and he seems to have gotten slow and out of shape....When your running 20 yards and huffing like a horse, your out of shape!

I see the point in that but a third round pick? I am not sure what his issue is and I agree about an RB losing it quickly. My major concern is that we get rid of shady and do not replace him with someone that can put up his numbers. He did regress that is for sure but I think a third round pick is a bad trade. I would rather see what he does this year because lost step or not I am sure he will do a lot better than any RB we pick up in the draft.

Restructure Shady's deal and bring a back in to compete. We had a crap offensive line and Foles was getting killed. When the line got healthy he had Sanchez as his QB. I think he has plenty of life left in his legs and the only way I get rid of him is if we does not restructure to something more team friendly.

I know so many love Shady, but again we are not paying a Rb 12 million a year that clearly has lost a step.

Shady's simply not worth the big money in Chip's Offense ... he gets replaced on 3rd downs and short yardage / goal line. We need cap space to sign free agents and our own guys. His role / production in this offense can be replaced for a small fraction of the cost.

Unfortunately you can't force a guy to restructure a one year old deal. In the NFL he is locked in unless you trade or release him.

Worth 12 mil or not, you need to replace him. I just don't think Sproles or Polk can do it. I'd love to see more Tucker.

Why would a run first team go into the season without any starting RBs? That doesn't make any sense.

They do it all the time. You sit Shady down and tell him that you want to keep him around but you would like to have a more cap friendly contract. He gets a signing bonus and a back weighted contract. If he doesn't then you trade or release him. Being an up and coming team that is built around the run games has some benefits.

Shady doesn't have to do anything if he doesn't want to. It really just comes down to who has the most leverage. If Shady doesn't I believe he is gone.

Again, PG, I want more than a 3rd round pick: a 2nd, or combination of a 3rd + other pick(s). I'm not trying to get rid of him, but if we can gt a good deal, and save the cap space, then it's a no brainer, IMO.

The mere presence of Shady makes our average QBs better. Take him away & you are asking for trouble.

Replace him first, then talk about trading/cutting him. Easier said than done. Dude is dependable. Ya know how many RBs fumble & injure themselves out of the league in short time? A ton. Guys cant block etc. Its not as simple as just plug a guy in & you are just as good. No.

If Chip does do what you have suggested Rey, Id want his ass gone. Replace him with a 3rd rd. pick? Thats insane.

Imagine if the Hawks did that. They would be crucified & rightfully so.

Again...you replace him first. Just merely picking a guy in the draft is not replacing him. Especially in the 3rd rd. Some RBs do actually bust.

DOnald Brown? Beanie Wells? Shonn Greene? Ya know, the guys some of u wanted over McCoy in the first place.

If the reason for trading Shady is purely money, then that does not make sense. This team has plenty of money under the cap and plenty of other overpaid players to cut in order to clear cap room. If you are moving on from him because he has too many negative runs or as I would say a football decision. Then go for it.

The way it should be done is this....

* You keep all 3 this year & restructure Shadys deal.
* Then in 2016 you draft a RB high in draft & release Sproles or let Polk go.
* In 2017, u make your decision on cutting/trading McCoy.

McCoy aint going anywhere this off season.

It's not that Shady isn't a solid player ... it's the amount of cap money he takes up "combined" with the fact that Chip isn't interested in one Back doing it all. Everyone wants all these free agent moves to fix the 2ndary, OL etc ... and nobody wants to lose our own free agents ... but all of that costs money which we need to have the cap room for. RB's have a short shelf life and it is the easiest position to replace. The Patriots have 4 Super Bowls and rotate Backs on a yearly basis. Every year they have 2 or 3 Backs, go with the hot hand at the time and have specialty roles. And if you have "Beasts" like Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch who are animals between the tackles then you make exceptions ... but Shady isn't that. You make sure you have good OL play along with a QB who makes good decisions and you're good to go. This is a great, deep RB Draft ... you can snag a guy between Rd's 2 through 4 to come in and produce 6-700 yards to team up with Polk and Sproles. Save that money to extend guys like Kendricks and Cox, to re-sign Maclin ... to bring in free agent help we desperately need.

Rey forget it man, they just aren't getting it. There is no way Shady is gonna say OK CHIP I'll play for 5 million this year...LOL.....Look at what Jeremy Hill did, you could see Carlos Hyde and Devonta Freeman are gonna be awesome as well. Look at Leveon Bell in year two or CJ Anderson. They all get paid Peanuts compared to Shady!!!

The thing is once again with Shady, yes he is overpaid but the Eagles can improve the secondary AND still keep Shady. Letting Shady go should be a football decision. So if you are trading Shady because you don't think he can repeat another 1300 yard season then that makes sense. If you are trading him simply because of his contract then the team is not interested in winning.
The Eagles cap is different than most teams because there investment at QB is really low. So they can afford Shady for one more year if they continue to go with Foles.

Shady has already stated publically that he isn't taking less money ... he said he'd restructure which means less money this year, but "more" "guaranteed" future money. That would even hinder us more as Kendricks, Cox and Foles (assuming he has a bounce back year) are all free agents next season. RB's are simply easy to replace as long as you have a solid OL. LeGarrette Blount whom the Steelers just released mid season comes to the Pats midseason and rolls up like 150 yards and 3 scores in the Championship game. A career journeyman 5'8" under 200 lb'er like Justin Forsett gets the carries in Baltimore and has a better year than Shady had. It's simply not a position where you should have to invest that much of the cap on. Again, if Shady were a beast then I could even understand it ... but is anyone here going to argue that he doesn't go down easily? that he's not very good between the tackles? that he takes too many zero or negative plays? that he's not a good pass blocker? Shady's a sexy Back ... he'll break off that one 40 yarder that's repeated on sportcenter and it makes his final line look decent. But when you look at the big picture ... how many other runs did he have where he had zero or negative yards that put us in 3rd and longs and stalled drives? How many times did we need those one or two yards where wew opted to pass because he can't be counted on between the tackles? If he's making 3 or 4 mil ... you live with it, but if he's making 9 or 10 that kills you.

TAZ I think any good rb can run for 1500 in Chips system, it needs to be more than that, the guy needs to be able to block, catch and run away from people and Go Beast Mode when needed not get tackled by their shoelaces.

Here is one of my favorite backs in this draft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp4z48CtCfU
He can juke, he can fly, he can catch and he can flat out run people the Fuck over! We could draft a kid like that in rd 3 and pay him 400K a year for the next 4 years.

I dont care who you draft. He isnt a sure thing. You dont cut/trade Shady until you know you have replaced him.

Earliest you could do it is next offseason AFTER picking a RB fairly high in this years draft. That way you get to see him for a year. Even then its pretty risky.

Again..you guys all forgetting Donald Brown, Beanie Wells, Shonn Greene etc.?

Chips system is good but it isnt good enough to make crap players really good. No system is.
