I read he could face up to 9 years in jail. Looks like his NHL days are over

Well the 9 years are a maximum. Being a first offense I doubt very seriously that he'd get that. Maybe 6 months to a year and then some rehab program if he isn't deported back to Russia. Which is also a possibility.

I don't know if he is guilty. I did not think they had enough to press charges.
The only info the police have is her injury, which can't be denied, and the statements made in the ER, which we don't know. The problem with the statements is Voynov and his wife are both going to claim that nothing they said at that time meant what people think. They are going to claim because there was no translator there at the time, it was all a misunderstanding. Hard to prove it wasn't an accident if all you have is hearsay and a cut on the head.

What I think happened, purely making this up, is that they were fighting, Slava grabbed her arm, she pulled free and hit her head on something.

The NHL is still suspending him with pay. The NHLPA is still refusing to give the Kings cap space. They don't want the player escrow to go up. The team and the fans will survive.

We should hear a couple of facts on the 15th
Then we can start guessing if he will get convicted.

Is there a difference between the cap space given by the NHL and NHLPA? I was just curious as I honestly don't know the difference between the two.

The NHL is the league office headed up by Commissioner Gary Bettman. The NHLPA is the Players Union. I'm not sure who the union leader is though. The union has nothing to do with the salary cap other than what they agreed to in the collective bargaining agreement. And that was to have one and it will be adjusted every year based on league revenues.

However the NHL needed the NHLPA to approve cap relief I this case. Because the money comes out of the player share, the PA didn't want the players to have to pay more into escrow.

Officer: "There's bruising, red marks, scratches on the victim's neck."
"At Voynov's home, the officer noted blood all over bedroom, including covering comforter and a bloody handprint on floor."

I can only catch quick glimpses of photos of the injuries to Voynov's wife. Lots of blood."[/I]

If these are the facts, he is done. He will not play for the Kings ever again.

Voynov has remained impassive during the hearing, head slightly bowed as an interpreter whispers in his left ear.
