Dirt track....outside wheels/tries are larger than the inside wheels/tires. To turn these cars towards the inside, you have to throttle up. If you let off the gas, the car will steer towards the outside. Turning the front tires is fine tuning a controlled slide.

My guess is Stewart did not see Ward. There was a car in front of him that barely got by the guy leaving Stewart with very little reaction time.

Hitting the accelerator was the correct reaction to make a quick turn towards the inside.

NOT TO sound like a know it all but ive been around racing all my life. i hate this " he probably didn't see him argument"

one, drivers are always very alert on track under caution, you dont want to run over a safety worker or a FELLOW DRIVER. second, the drivers at this level have cat like driving reflexes. for those saying the kid was stupid or wondering why he was out of his car in the first place, its very common for drivers that are upset to get out of their cars and point , give the bird, throw a helmet at another driver under caution, its almost tradition like.

here's what MOST LIKELY HAPPENED. tony SAW the kid ranting and raving so he thought he would give the kid a taste of his own medicine. he was going to buzz by the driver to make him jump/ flinch a little bit ( common thing done by drivers for years). well it all went wrong, tony got too CLOSE AND when he gunned it/ hit the throttle he hit the kid and sucked him under the tire. I WOULD BET MY CHECK THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED.

still its going to be hard to proof he did anything on purpose with the vid out right now, however; if there's another video from a different angle it might proof my theory without question.

Sounds like one life ended and many were ruined last night.

"Sorry" isn't going to cut it.

Well, this video proves this guy's eyes are lying to him.
1) Stewart was ahead of Ward coming out of the turn.
2) Ward did not flip at all.

Our society has gotten to the point where a highly successful person acts like a video game player and then tries to cover it up?

That's a great analogy and one I've heard before. This world is so fucked up that many people think this is a video game.

I'm going to believe a video before I believe word of mouth. The video clearly proves that Stewart didn't spin Ward out. Tony had the inside line, Ward should have backed it down.

Damn, just realized that during this same week last year, Stewart was laid up in a hospital due to a sprint car crash broke his leg in Iowa.

Greg Zipadelli, Stewart Haas Racing VP, just confirmed that Stewart will be racing today. :burt:

Selfish. If I ran someone over on 'accident' it would be hard to just hop back in the car the next day. But that's me.

If NASCAR allows it. I would be shocked if they did.

What say does Nascar have in the matter? The dirt race wasn't Nascar sanctioned, and the investigation is not being considered as a criminal case.

Stewart might very well have acted negligently but what was that kid doing walking around on the track? Unless it's on fire stay in your damn car until it's towed to the pits!

Exactly. Ward contributed to his own death. Any of those cars could have hit Ward since he was walking towards on-coming traffic, it just so happened that it was Stewart that did hit him.

I think it's something along these lines. He was either trying to taunt the kid or he genuinely didn't see him and then panicked at which point he over-corrected.

I don't think there was real malice... Carelessness for human life? That's the real question.
