Cincy's Splendid Splinter

Wonderful news! Joey Votto is a hitting machine - As long as he's playing for a club that is hopelessly out of contention.

I actually haven't watched them play more than an inning or two the whole season..... I just happened upon this article and found it fascinating. Over the past 4 years, all we really needed was a healthy Joey Votto to drive the ball in the middle of the lineup..... Glad he's doing it now for a team that is in the bottom 5 of all of baseball.

Can the Reds please not ruin my Mets season this weekend. I can't handle Cincinnati ruining football and baseball for me this year.

I'm fairly sure the Mets are capable of ruining their own season..... They have a lot of experience.

I honestly don't know which team's failures have a bigger impact on my mental health.

Looks like the fire sale is about to begin. Chapman is supposed to be gone by the end of the weekend and they came out and said they are listening to trades for Bruce, Votto, Philips and Frazier.

Thank god...... They need to blow the whole thing up. They should look closely at what Houston did a few years ago. They sucked for a number of years, but they probably fixed their franchise.

Todd Frazier traded to the White Sox.

Really the only guy on the team I liked. I had minimal interest in watching a triple A ball club. Now literally zero interest.

if we're going to blow it up and rebuild, then they need to trade away the other good players as well... I guess.

You knew this was coming after they tried to bandaid it for the 2 years. It should have started in 2013/2014 in reality, but the ownership thought they could get lucky with a few good seasons and health. Didn't work. When you take a gamble like that, it turns out like this.

I don't mind supporting a re-build. I'll go and watch, but it has to be an actual re-build and not some half-assed attempt. At least it seems they are doing it right.

did phillips go yet? he's gotta be a goof to want to stay here for this.

we're developing rookies here to see who rises to the occasion, nothing less, nothing more.

Overplayed his hand, from what I've read. Was trying for more $ or years out of DC, and they weren't biting. The Reds had a deal in place, but needed BP to OK it. DC wouldn't pay him, and BP wouldn't waive the no trade.

I have no idea why he'd want to stay. He's got 2 more years on his contract, and he's got about .091% chance of being on another team that will compete, much less compete for a WC or division. He's not going to get paid in two more years, especially if he struggles with all the new/young guys around him and Votto. Why not take the trade to a manager he loves, to a place that will be competing for a divisional title and playoff spot? Makes zero sense, but I guess if he's "That" loyal to Cincinnati, I'd hope to not hear a peep out of him when the team is 35 games out of 1st play by mid-May.

Yes you will.

You're like the rest of us...glutton for punishment and pain.

So besides the mere fact they are going to be really bad next year, what does everyone think of the Reds moving forward? I like the deals they made and the prospects they got, but I don't really believe in the farm system to develop them into anything.

read the Phillips Wiki. apparently he was given the run around by Montreal (now Nationals) no wonder he refuses to play for them.

he was sort of a prospect in Cleveland, and never really had success until he came to Cincinnati by trade. I guess he just wants to stay with the people that helped him become the player he is today. I guess I can respect that. if he did leave for a contender, I would still be a fan.

I'm unlikely to watch a single game. Baseball is boring to watch on television. It can be interesting if your team is in contention, but that's not going to be the case with this club.

At this point, I'm not sure if I'll continue to be a baseball fan. Over the years, I've had less time or inclination to watch sports besides NFL football and maybe some college hoops. I'll barely watch any college football anymore and that used to be one of my favorite sports. The Reds kept me somewhat interested in baseball as they began to be relevant again. By the time they make it back to relevance this time, I'm not sure I'll really care.
