Witherspoon apparently injured now, so I guess we wont get to see our NICKEL cornerback.... ugh... what a dumb pick.

This is going to be Aaron Curry 2.0... and I was hyped about Curry.. guess this is my redemption.

Its hard to believe how bad they have been in round one, after almost 15 years you would think they'd hit on more than just a few by accident

I think JSN will be a stud, but I still stand by that Witherspoon was a dumbass pick.. I would've just taken the risk on Carter.

I've been all over the place when it comes to Witherspoon. Tape and every scouting report I've read had him as a Jaire Alexander comp with a low floor and high ceiling.

I'm trying to convince myself putting him at nickel isn't an indication of his talent. There's a number of reasons why this could be; apparently Michael Jackson has been balling out, which would justify keeping him outside, and there's a possibility that a combination of Spoon on the outside with Jackson on the inside doesn't play as well as having Jackson on the boundary and Spoon in the slot. Additionally they moved Coby Bryant to safety due to a lack of depth behind Diggs/Love/Adams which opened up the nickel position.

Additionally, these days nickel is essentially a starter and IMO a harder position to play. On the boundary you have the sideline, when you're playing in the nickel there's a lot of different ways a route can break.

Hopefully what I just described is what the situation looks like and it's not that Witherspoon is the 3rd best CB on the roster. If that's the case... Ugh...

I agree on JSN, but regarding Witherspoon I'm just going to assume he isn't playing slot because he's the third best CB on the team, but because he's the best fit there currently. That being said I'm not going to call it a dumbass pick yet.

Personally I would've taken Carter, as I believe he was the best prospect in this draft. IMO (off the top of my head) in the last 23 years the best DT prospects were Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Quinnen Williams, Vita Vea (bias) and Jalen Carter.

Before someone calls me an idiot for not including Aaron Donald or Chris Jones, I'm just basing it on what the expectations/scouting reports were on those guys before being drafted.
