I've come in here a few time previously so I just wanted to stick my head in and say good luck to your club today and for the season.
Our lineup will be: Carpenter 5, Wong 4, Holliday 7, Craig 9, Adams 3, Molina 2, Peralta 6, Bourjos 8, Waino 1.

Best of luck, I look forward to some "friendly" banter.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Yeah, it's Wainright and the entire bullpen, but ... ya know ... those are the guys you have to beat.
This offense is just like it always was.

Yikes, BHam 0-4 with 4 whiffs. Lots of strikeouts, lots of LOB, same old Reds. On a positive note, the pitching was superb.

First and third, no outs. 0 runs
Gift of a 2-base error, no outs. 0 runs
Brilliant start squandered.
Leadoff man was clueless, as noted.

Seems like the same kind of issues facing these Reds.

I don't think he even fouled one of those curve balls off. He better learn to hit a curve fast or his time in the majors will be short

WTF--Can blame Crusty today. Same old problem for the Reds. I can tell you right now--put Bernadina in CF. You may be better off to use Billy Ham as a late inning specialist much like a reliever. We have enough outfielders that we can do that.

Lots of people go ofer with the golden sombrero against Wainwright. No surprise a rookie would. He did foul off several, and like a good leadoff hitter, took some pitches...and as it turned out, most if them were strikes on the black.

Can't bitch too much 1-0 with that kind of pitching. BP made a baserunning gaffe on Bruce slug bunt - what, he thought he would score on that ? Votto looked like a chump not running on what he thought was a foul, but was a DP ball. Bernadina PH with Heisey on the bench was Dusty-esc. Frazier stealing without a throw was like watching Prince Fielder embarassing Homer. Glad to see Price not use a Bakers dozen relievers, but I gotta wonder how often Parra is going to face righties. Hopefully, when they return 6 guys to AAA or unemployment after DL members are healed, the roster won't be as scary, but the offense isn't going to score a lot, I think...so great pitching is a requirement.

It was a perfect day, although I don't understand if you can only get 43,000 in the stands, how 100,000 parking spaces in the city could be taken, and how the stands can be full when a 20,000 sea of people are clogged in the concourse for the entire 3 hours.

Opening Day 2014 wasn't much different than the 2013 version. Last year the Reds only had 3 hits and Cueto pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on three hits, the same line as yesterday.

Yesterday the Cards committed 3 errors and a wild pitch, the Angels the same last year.

Both games the Reds failed to take advantage of the other teams poor play in the field. When the other team tries to give you the game, I'd prefer the Reds take them up on it.

If Hamilton bunts every time he comes to the plate, what are the odds that 3 out of 10 will result in a hit?

No doubt putting the ball in play will be key for young Billy. Four ground balls/ bunts would have to result in at least one hit/ error you'd have to think.

He really doesn't have to make good contact, a dribbler is almost a sure hit, a well struck ground ball gives the fielder a better chance to throw him out.

He looked pretty amped up over swinging. Understandable with it being Opening Day with a big crowd in your rookie season. He'll settle in, then people can judge his performance more fairly.

Seems like the good pitchers will pitch to Hamilton with the down-and-in curve ball.
But he needs to find a way to get on base. No options.

My statistical expectations aren't that high for BHam. I think most metrics can be thrown out the window when trying to determine his value.

Can he get on? We'll see.....we know he can get himself into scoring postion. The next biggest question is can someone get him in.

Up early trying to catch that worm Chico......seems like the Cardinals keep catching it first. My summer is full with work and baseball with a little sleep sprinkled in.
