Favorite lyrics from the album would have to be from "Rock 'n Roll Suicide":

"Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette"

and even better

"Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float ride your mind
You're so natural - religiously unkind

Oh no love! you're not alone"

Well, in that case, I shall go out of order. I've been listening to this whole album for about a month now, but Rolling Stone ranked it number 35 on the list.

35. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: 4.5/5 stars
Artist: David Bowie
Metacritic score: N/A
Listened continuously?: Nope

I will start this review by saying that, outside of the albums that appear by the artists Eminem and Nas (if Nas does appear on this list- I haven't checked, but I'd be shocked if "Illmatic" and "It Was Written" didn't make the list), David Bowie is my favorite artist to appear on this Rolling Stone list. This is my favorite album from him, and one of my favorites of all time. I hope to review other Bowie albums, like Blackstar, even if they did not appear on the list (and I still think he has three more albums appearing on the list).

I was torn on whether I should give this album 4.5/5 stars or 5/5 stars. It was ridiculously close. Unlike my film reviews, my album reviews are much more subjective- I could see myself tweaking the ratings with more listens, though I rarely change my film reviews (and when I do, it's typically only a half star up or down after I re-watched it).

"It 'Aint Easy," "Star," "Hang On To Yourself," "Suffragette City." Those are the only songs I did NOT find absolutely amazing. And by amazing, I mean "top 50/100 songs of all time" amazing. And I didn't hate those songs. Of the four, I liked "Suffragette City" and "It 'Aint Easy" best. They're all decent/ok songs, they just aren't close to standing up to the rest of the album. This is the only thing, right now, holding this album back from a perfect 5/5 star rating.

Of the songs that WERE fucking amazing, my favorite would probably be "Rock 'n Roll Suicide" (whoever said rock isn't deep can go fuck themselves). Well, "Starman" is a classic. Fuck, "Lady Stardust" was awesome. But that guitar solo on "Moonage Daydream"! And, can't forget about the awesomeness of "Soul Love" ("Love is careless, in its choosing/Sweeping over cross a baby") or of "Ziggy Stardust." And "Five Years" is commonly called the best opening track of any rock album, ever.

FUCK!

Seriously, this album is great. If you haven't heard it, please do yourself a favor and give it a listen. If you heard it when it came out, or a long time ago, listen again. If you heard it fucking yesterday, listen today. And check out the Ziggy Stardust story: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - Wikipedia

Lastly, thanks to @Sir Robin Of Camelot, I now know that it's meant "TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME":

God I love this album...

I see @jeffro151 facepalmed my OP that commented on my dislike of Sgt. Pepper.

I wonder how he feels knowing that The Beatles were a bunch of hardcore junkie socialists who were all in unanimous support of men ramming their dicks into other men's asses

My facepalm had nothing to do with the Beatles. It was aimed directly at you for posting another dumbass thread.

Fuck, how many more of these awful albums do I have to listen to from this goofy band....

I'll keep this review short. "Eleanor Rigby" was the only good song (and it is a good song). I usually write the songs I particularly disliked, but I don't feel like going to Wikipedia and just copying and pasting the rest of the track listing...

I will say that the album was less offensive to the ear than Sgt. Pepper. There were some songs off that album where I'd rather listen to Selena Gomez than them. But on the flipside, there were at least 3 songs off Sgt. Pepper I enjoyed, thus its higher rating.

Now...

Commence the facepalming by all the triggered hippie minions!!!

I usually don't like the phrase "triggered" so I feel like a bit of a hypocrite, but it's fitting in this instance.

Oh, so very fitting.

Sorry that I can't make more posts aimed at sucking off President Trump. Tell you what, just ignore my posts/threads, and click on the billion others that fit your MO better.

I don't know what an "OGBYN" is, but thanks for the suggestion. Do you have one you see that you would recommend, jeff?

Man, this thread was a great idea. I might run out of cellular data, but it really spices up the walks. Monday was a great day; yesterday was just ok. Today's off to a good startIMG_0322.PNG

Revolver > Velvet Revolver > Scott Weiland > Stone Temple Pilots > Sour Girl > Sarah Michelle Geller > Cruel Intentions = My last 10 minutes.

So easy to get distracted on the inter-web :gaah:

I take these polls with a grain of salt. Musical tastes are extremely subjective, and one man's trash is another's gold.

And when it comes to the Rolling Stone and their "informed" lists... even more so. I looked at the list @Omar 382 is using yesterday. There are at least 3 Bob Dylan albums from the last 20 years on it. I've listened to two of the three (Time Out Of Mind and Modern Times). Haven't bothered with "Love and Theft" because those other two absolutely suck!!!

Yet - no Chicago (II?) or Rush (Moving Pictures?)... not that everyone agrees with those two bands.

But that's the thing about Rolling Stone Magazine. If you aren't kissing Jann Wenner's butt...

The origins of maybe half of the music I listen to at least partially runs through that album.
