Thank you my friends scouty and Clayton for your input to my question which have been noted but I want to hear from a few more of our Cardinals buddies before I say what I want to say.
Go fuck yourself...

It's looking like the Brewers are going to be the team to beat.

Hey Buddy, Your Reds are on a roll and they are not beating up on a cupcake either because the Braves were playing good baseball until they arrived in Cincinnati.

I can't stand one run loses at home, and particularly in extra innings, but that's what happened to the Cardinals last night.

I'm thinking the Brewers and the Cubs are going to be the teams to beat but since we are only about 1/8 finished with the regular season I guess all of us are guessing at this point.

Reds are beating up a team that claims to have better pitching than it has.
But the Braves can score runs. Mahle pitched six hoss innings last night for the Reds. He was hitting mid-90s, which suggests he's learning to get more out of a fastball with less effort. Always a good formula.
Reds get Suarez back this week and that adds a bat.

John, Yes, the Braves pitching is questionable but like you said they can score runs. I know the Cardinals don't see the Reds again for awhile but I also know the Reds will be a better team when they meet again.

Those daily standings are starting to look more respectable for the Reds too so please make them look even more respectable by beating up on the Brewers, Cubs, and Pirates.

Cardinals season in a nutshell: win 1 game by the score of 9-1 and lose the other game by 1 run.

Clayton, You're so right. That first game of the Mets series losing 6-5 in 10 innings was hard to take. The good news is that was only one game with 7/8 of the season left to be played.

The thing I'm seeing with this team this year is that they have great depth and they're lacking that top tier talent that Pujols always gave them and Waino/Carpenter always gave them.

Carlos Martinez is great but seemingly only when his back is against the wall. He only missed on two pitches early but one hit a foot and the other drove in the run and now the Cards are looking at Thor and they are going to have issues in this game because Thor is top shelf. Carlos Martinez is top shelf when he is on but he is a bit streaky.

I think the Cards have a good team this year. If they make the playoffs, though, they might have issues going anywhere unless the bats get really hot.

Its early, though. Both in the game and in the season.

Best win of the young season so far right there.

Clayton, My take on today's game is this:

In a game that took 4 hours and 11 minutes to play with 37,762 paid light hitting Dexter Fowler got the hit in the bottom of the 13th to drive in the winning run but the star of the game was John Gant who pitched perfect baseball in extra innings retiring 9 batters in a row over 3 innings of work. This guy has a lot of movement on his fastball in the mid 90s and he also throws strikes, unlike what I have been seeing from other Cardinals relief pitchers. I think he earned himself a spot start at some point today. Now it's on to Pittsburgh to see what we can do with the Pirates.

Why does Matheny keep putting Carpenter back in the lead-off spot? The dude is hit .170. Maybe Carp has some discriminating pictures of Matheny.

Maybe I miss read something, but from Martinez stats on my fantasy sight...did he hit 3 batters last night?

I think so. I think he is already at 8 for the season but he seems to perform better when runners are on base :noidea:

Now it's on to Pittsburgh to see what we can do with the Pirates.

If you recorded the first game and havent watched it yet, delete it after the top of the 9th :suds:

Bob Gibson hit a lot of batters because he let them know real quick that he owned the plate. I hope Martinez has got some of that same mind set in him because I can live with that.

Why do we struggle so much with the Pirates like last year, the year before, and now 0-1 this year after tonight? And of all people to score the winning run tonight in extra innings it was David Freeze. Go figure.

Tommy Pham leads the entire major leagues in hitting at .358

Watch and learn:

Matt Carpenter at .169
Dexter Fowler at .178
Kolten Wong at .188

How are we even in contention since our pitching is not all that great either?
