And ainge's draft record is vastly overrated. He's living off of a few drafts like 04 and the rondo pick.

He was the GM for a big chunk of his time...And even during the time he wasn't, you don't think he was crucial in the development of the likes of Parker, Ginobili, and Leonard?

Idk who their shooting coach is, but he's also the best in the game.

Leonard was an abomination of a shooter at SDSU and in less than a year he was an NBA 3pt guy. It was incredible. Pops being able to keep him around is an impressive feat in its own right.

If I wasn an NBA owner or GM I would have offered to triple his salary to get him to my squad.

Pop wouldn't even be in SA without Duncan. He's probably fired before Y2K.

But you can say that about anyone. What if Phil Jackson left the Bulls for another team and went to the kings who just had the #1 pick and got Pervis Ellison. The triangle probably never exists..

But I think what Pop has done to extend Duncan's career, to really take a strong look internationally at players, to make the most of late picks when his team was great also. To get players to buy into his system for less than maybe they could get elsewhere has been huge. To rekindle used up careers (McDyess and Diaw come to mind) and find them roles that just fit perfectly.

You look at other teams lately and they hit their highs... And as their elite players age, they tend to have to get bad to rebuild their talents or find new top FA's. SA finds great players late in the draft and doesn't have to do that.

As for him Tanking year 1. I think their win% went up from 17% to 26% when he took over from Hill. And he also lost Elliott to real injuries in that time and still won more.
