Imo if Pop was the coach/gm of the Celtics, they'd be a #2 seed next year and a #1 seed for the 5 years after that.

If Pop was the coach/gm of the Sixers, they'd be a #4 or #5 seed next year and making the playoffs every year after that.

He is good. He traded George Hill for Kawhi Leonard.

I don't think coaches win championships generally but they can certainly lose them. Coaches do make teams get to the playoffs, though. Good coaches don't miss the playoffs unless half of their team gets hurt.

I don't think the Celtics issues are at coach; they're pretty well set right now. They need a better GM to stock the roster.

Previously I might have agreed on Pop, but the thing that really changed my mind was about 2-3 years ago, when he changed the Spurs offensive principles and philosophy. They were a grind it out team, that made a transition to more free-flowing offense, which resulted in another championship for him. He's shown that he's capable of adjusting to the league and isn't just a product of TD, Parker and Ginobili.

If it's between these two, Ainge in a landslide loss. I really don't know why he took Brown over Dunn. Even now trying to make moves with trades, Dunn would be a much superior trade chip.

Pop wouldn't even be in SA without Duncan. He's probably fired before Y2K.

Pop looks like he got into a motorcycle accident and had some serious road-rash on his face.

And yet, astonishingly, his face is more attractive than his personality.

Ok @HurricaneDij39 live in the world of denial.

Give it a rest dude. "Almost" only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades...The fact is that Popovich is one of the greatest coaches of all-time, and in my opinion - The greatest. I don't give a fuck if he was "almost" fired before Duncan came aboard after going 17-47 without David Robinson and Sean Elliot for much of the season.

Ainge may have had some lousy drafts (Fab Melo comes to mind), but he's not overrated either.

Translation, I don't like facts.

If you struggle when you have Robinson and Duncan....man. That's sad.

Without that shameless tank job dude is a nobody.

And ainge's draft record is vastly overrated. He's living off of a few drafts like 04 and the rondo pick.

You win with talent.
Winner winner. Perfect example this year the Cavs. They had no coach and still won. It doesnt matter some times. I do think teams like change some times. Like Last year with GS. Kerr helped GS get over that hump that Jackson couldnt.

Pop is a good coach. U dont win that much over that span and say its just talent. Pop is a Top 5 coach of all time.

LOL - I guess that the consensus is that just about every coach for an NBA champion in the last 20 years is terrible. Or do some here perhaps think that Lue, Spoelstra & Carlisle are the only truly good coaches in this category? :D

Nope, just Lue lol

So Lue didn't make adjustments, give me a break. I know Blatt didn't have much to work with last year in the Finals but he failed to make simple adjustments just like Kerr this year. A coach might not determine if you win or not but a coach can definitely help the cause and Lue stayed on Lebrons' ass the entire Finals, that is the most I have ever seen from a coach of Lebron's, that's why he respects him. I am not saying Lue is a great coach, but if you watched the little adjustments he made it made a difference in the series along with having great players.

The fact is great coaches needs great players but sustaining the success starts with player development and coaching IMO

I may have missed the irony, but I don't see how anyone can think Popovich is overrated. He's won 5 titles, the first with 2 HoFers, has won 4 more since with the most recent being an older team that you had a HoF in Duncan not even playing as much.

No I didnt see anything lue really did. I didnt see any changes. I think we just saw LBJ and Irving go off and the injury of Bogut. I know u are a homer but from the outside I didnt see much from lue. I saw LBJ making the calls. I might be wrong but thats what I saw.
