Sylvester Williams is a NT that doesn’t command double teams...he’ll no.
he is just a stop gap .. logan and hankins are the only guys who offer solutions

We already have that stop gap on the team. McGee is better than Williams and numerous players are already his equal.
i agree , i am not a big fan of putting a resource into a stop gap on the d/line . a LG is a place we need to put a resource in if we cant get a decent d/lineman

So we're getting used by a journeyman DE? Hey, I hope things work out well for him in Atlanta.
Don't think McPhee is a good fit in WASH anyway. And, what is wrong with a player taking a deal in hand to another team and saying, beat it? I see that as leverage, not using anyone. If the Skins really see a need then it appears they are willing to offer what it takes, ie; Richardson. I thought they should have used this approach with Hankins but apparently they did not.

He's clearly using the Skins. Not saying he should or shouldn't, but as the saying goes, it is what it is. I don't see a reason to sugar coat it.

He isn’t using the Skins. The Skins made an offer. It was an offer he thinks he can match or beat. It wasn’t an offer too good to pass up.

From our perspective, I am glad we didn’t offer a contract too good to pass up.

I have a question...I believe that Philly won the SB and were ($11,210,390) over the cap. I also know that there was a deadline for all teams to be under the cap for this season (March 14th)

Does anyone know if that's a season long hard cap or as Philly demonstrated one that can be breeched just as long as you're under the cap prior to the start of the league year? Thanks in advance!

NFL salary cap for teams is $177.2 million for 2018 season

Philly had contracts on the books that would have put them over the top as of March 14. They had to adjust.

The NFL has a hard cap, but now allows carry over.

teams must remain below the hard cap plus carry over for the entire season.

Example.

HArd cap 177 plus carry over of 5 Million would mean the team has an effective hard cap of $182M

As long as total out lay of active players, Players on IR does not go over that $182M from March 14 until the end of the 2018 season, the team is in compliance.

In order to ensure this, if the team were at $180M and tried to sign a player to a $5M contract, the league would reject it and tell them to either lower the contract, or make a corresponding contract move to ensure that they have enough cap space.

For cap purposes, any likely to be earned bonuses are considered a part of the total cap number for the year. Any bonuses not earned come off the cap total for that year and becomes available as carry over cap funds for the following year.

Carry over cap numbers are used before the current years cap is used.

As a true NT we may not need him to get off blocks as well as others instead just to occupy 2 blocks

JG is a better pass rusher then the current FA OLB's that we brought in. I hope we do get him back. His numbers were down last year b/c of lack of playing time. He did have pressures when he was in there.

Could be just as effective even if they arent making the tackle they are freeing up Brown and Foster to gain 100+ tackles.

20 tackles in a season for a true NT is not a solid indicator of effectiveness

According to Kiem, the Redskins are still interested in Hankins, but his asking price is apparently too high. IM all for the new and improved Frugal Skins, and I would be fine if this forces them to address the D-line early (read as first round) in the draft.

But I still think they need to sign some one AND draft some one early for the line. With $21M in cap space ( Lets say effectively $16M because they will need $5M to sign the draft picks) I would consider it a positive if they got some one (worthwhile) signed and still addressed the line in the draft.
