Kyler Murray's contract is for $30M in 2022, $38M in 2023, & $37M in 2024. There is a maximum of $2.85M available in preseason workout and game-day bonuses during that time period. $103.3M was guaranteed at signing. Basically it's $107.85M/3 years with a sensible framework for 3 years beyond that. It's an excellent contract.

I don't think Jackson is worth much more than that. I couldn't justify going beyond $125M/3 years, and I wouldn't be fully guaranteeing that 3 year total. Guarantees for year 4 and beyond shouldn't kick in until the end of year 2 at the earliest.

You don't think an MVP is worth more than Kyler Murray, lol?

May be an image of 2 people, people playing football and text that says 'OVERPAID TRASH TOP 5 CHAMPIONS -102 Total TDs Since 2020 44 turnovers since 2020 -0 injuries -1-3 Playoff Record (7 Td 2 TOs) -15 GWD -61 Total TDs Since 2020 -39 turnovers since 2020 -3 injuries -1-3 Playoff Record (4 Td 8 TOs) GWD''OVERPAID TRASH TOP 5 CHAMPIONS -102 Total TDs Since 2020 44 turnovers since 2020 -0 injuries -1-3 Playoff Record (7 Td 2 TOs) -15 GWD -61 Total TDs Since 2020 -39 turnovers since 2020 -3 injuries -1-3 Playoff Record (4 Td 8 TOs) GWD'

Rushing Yards: 368 vs 2536

Why the artificial time period starting with 2020, lol?

This is sort of where I am at..... I think they negotiated with him the best they could. The guy's insistence on not using an agent has made the process too difficult for both parties. This could have easily been done a long time ago.

Even if he used an agent, the agent can only do his bidding. If Lamar insists on certain contract stipulations, the agent isn't going to change that.

I didn't create it - it made me laugh. I shared it.

Not everything is so serious....but you make a big point about just how valuable LJ's legs are to his being able to play "QB" - and why teams are leery of legs wearing out...Good catch....maybe LJ should move to RB full time?

I think the MVP meant a lot more in 2019 than it does in 2023.

For reference the 2019 AP offensive player of the year voting:
1 WR Michael Thomas
2 QB Lamar Jackson
3 RB Christian McCaffrey
4 QB Patrick Mahomes
5 QB Russell Wilson

AP defensive player of the years voting:
1 RCB Stephon Gilmore
2 LOLB Chandler Jones
3 LOLB T.J. Watt
4 ROLB Shaquil Barret
5 RDE Aaron Donald

5 out of the 10 have either retired or been moved on by their team, and Michael Thomas might be in his last year.

Again, I think Jackson is worth more than Murray in the short term. Maybe $15M over the 1st 3 years. After that...I wouldn't want to be guaranteeing Jackson anything.

His level of play in on the same level more or less, given that his weapons have broken down and he has missed some games as well.

Well, most RB's have a life span of about 4-6 years. Most reach peak end of career by 27 or 28. Considering that LJ is much more a threat with his legs than his arm at QB, and is essentially a RB at the QB spot....yeah, 26, and asking for big dollars guaranteed...

Hmm......

Not saying he can't prove everyone wrong with his arm at QB, but to date he has not shown it...thus, no team is willing to make a future bet that it happens and considering they fear his legs will go before his arm comes around...and has missed the past 2 years with injuries most recently to his knee....yeah....

It's not any team that can take on a max QB, especially one that requires some sculpting of the roster around him. Most teams that need a QB need a rebuild, and as such need a rookie contract QB to build around that QB. There would need to be a team ready to just add the QB (like the Jets) to make that work, thus the lack of bidders (so far). I would've thought the Falcons would make sense, maybe the Colts if they don't get their guy this weekend (but I think they'll trade up to 3, if not 2 to ensure that).

In the end, the easiest fix is for the Ravens and Lamar to meet in the middle and get this done, but I'm not sure where that relationship stands now.

Not only legs wearing out. These qbs get tired of taking all the hits especially after they get their money. Therefore they aren’t so quick to tuck and run

The injury-causing hits that Lamar has taken have been in the pocket.

And he’ll take more of those when he’s not a threat to run it

This is true, but because of how much LJ relies on his legs, the injuries to his knees/legs are far more important than other QB's. That means all leg/knee injuries to LJ carry far more significant weight - and running puts him at an even higher risk for additional injuries than those just inside the pocket.

I think that is what most are getting at when talking about his running style and the predicated nature of his ability to play the QB position.

The Ravens offensive style is self-fulfilling that prophecy. Protect the QB better in the passing game, give him more targets that can actually get open and catch the ball beyond Andrews, etc.

Seems to me the Ravens have invested in the WR position it just hasn't worked out. 2021 used a first on Rashod Bateman and a fourth on Tylan Wallace and signed Sammy Watkins, in 2019 they used a first on Maquise Brown and a third on Myles Boykin. That's a decent amount of investing in the WR position.

They signed Hollywood and traded him away. Watkins doesn't count as an investment in anything other than bandages and icy hot.

Investing and investing smartly are two very different things apparently.
