Mayfield all the way. The guy had a much bigger season than anyone really expected and he started from further back than Stafford.

From a football standpoint it should be Baker. Guy was fighting for a roster spot and should be a starting QB somewhere in relative demand.

From dead to special teams player is a bigger leap than from bad QB to average QB. Hamlin will win I think.

I'm hoping we can simply appreciate the Hamlin story without jilting someone of a much deserved award.
Yet here's the thing. As most of us agree, if we're talking strictly performance on the field vs last season, Mayfield appears to be the heavy favorite. He's my choice based on that. But we have to remember it's called the Comeback Player of the Year for a reason. How much more comeback can a player have than coming back from death? Hamlin was literally dead for several minutes. And even after being resuscitated and even after going thru intense rehab, many health experts questioned if he could ever play any kind of football again, let alone returning to the highest level in the game. That's climbing the ultimate mountain and there's something to be said about accomplishing this.

This is Hamlin for me. It’s amazing that he was actually on a field this year.

Hamlin will win it but that is a joke IMO - he hasn’t made an impact on the field, he’s only made a few tackles in a few games, that’s it. But the NFL wants a Hallmark movie feel good story with Hamlin so he’ll win it.

Baker Mayfield should win it - he went from being written off as a bust to leading the Bucs to a division title.

I don't think there's a winner this year. I'd be ok with no award. Mayfield has been average in 2023. Tagovailoa had a statistically excellent 2022 on 13 games and he hasn't been so lucky with defensive dropped passes in 2023. Flacco played 5 games, again. Hamlin barely plays. Stafford already has a CPoY trophy from 2011. Stafford might win again by default.

These conditions are why the special interest story in Hamlin will win. If a person has an opinion that Hamlin is stealing the award (not this guy: I think it’s earned just by him getting back on the field this year) then who or what is he actually “stealing it” from? Everything else seems like a forced kind of “yeah but” situation.

Hamlin played in 5 games this year. Started zero.

He played 15 the year he died. And started 13.

That’s giving a participation trophy for breathing.

I'm not accusing him of stealing the award. I don't believe that being on a roster is enough to win the award, even if there's no-one else to vote for. Effectively he was medically cleared to play because he suffered a 1 in a million freak event that shouldn't impact him again in the future. There wasn't any reason for him NOT to be on a roster. Whatever. I'm not going to be upset unless the bar gets lowered to 'NFL person' and Jim Irsay wins it next year.

You have a right to your opinion but I disagree. I think him getting on the field at all this year is very impressive considering what happened and what he had to do to get back on the field.

That’s a great close haha
