Here is my beef besides France and JP getting f'ed.

Top of 8th Kwan 2-2 pitch was a strike called a ball. Next pitch a ball and he walks. The difference between 1 on and no outs scoring is 18.7% vs none on and 1 out is 9.5%. That is huge.



The bottom of the 8th first pitch to Frazier.

Ball 3 was strike 3.

Yes I saw that, was an unfortunate BS call by the ump ( and he had plenty to go around )
The 3-2 pitch should have been a strike then, if I recall it was way wide off the plate / outside. Zero chance a good hitter like Kwan takes a hack at such a poor pitch offering. Yea Munoz' is only human he is gonna dish out a few walks here and there. It was just terrible timing to start the inninh that way.

I have umpired a few times in my little league coaching days ( fill in when umps were a 'no show' )
I have been both behind the dish as well as umpired balls and strikes from directly behind the pitchers mound ( when neither ump showed up )
I can 100% attest to the fact I personally was able to call ball - strikes much more accurately from behind the pitcher vs in the normal homeplate umpire position, posted up behind the catcher. It is just not the best view to be accurate in your calls - pitch assessment.

I don't blame Munoz at all even though his ball looked tired. The two next hits were jam shots that just went against him.

I umped 13 and 14 year old Babe Ruth when I played basketball in JC. I agree it was easier to call from behind mound which I had to do when I was the only ump a few times. These guys make 6 figures up to half a million. No excuses and no excuses not to use the technology available. Just sad.

I hope good Robbie shows up.
