This trade baffles me, why would they give up Chase Young for a 3rd round pick ? Chase is only 24 years old, sure he’s had injury issues, BUT dam, 49rs didn’t give up much to get a potential good young player…

A thought:

Maybe the new analytical hire suggested that paying Young and Sweat wasnt worth it. That would make these trades worhtwhile, I suppose.

It's possible that Harris asked the new analytics guy for his advice, liked his advice, and hired him with "what to do at the deadline" firsrt and foremost in his mind.

Certainly the DL isnt playing like a DL with four first rounders should be playing.

Allen got 72 mill/35 mill guar what? 3, 4 years ago. Payne got 90 mill/45 mill guar last year. Both would've been looking for more in line with what Payne got. This DL was terribly overrated.They could've got more for Payne after last year imo.

They'd better not get rid of Fuller either. He's still their best CB.

My point was that if this move was made by Harris, and id Harris consulted the analytics guy who approved of these moves, thenI’m all for them.

It remains to be seen what the commanders do with their GM position, and coaching staff, especially if Howell shows more promise and could be a solution at qb.

Three top 50 picks plus all that cap room and some foundational pieces and a new ownership structure seems like it could be enticing to top level coaching / gm talent.

I commented on this earlier. After Mathis got hurt Washington picked up Ridgeway from Dallas. Sometimes he doesn't pay to get hurt. Time will tell.

Yeah, I was kinda sorta co-signing what you were alluding to. But analytics or not, 160 million/95 mill guar is already tied up in 2 DL with each eating up 13% of the cap. Paying either DE what they could've commanded wasn't a smart move regardless how you looked at.

It remains to be seen what the commanders do with their GM position, and coaching staff, especially if Howell shows more promise and could be a solution at qb.

If Howell continues to show promise the new regime will be down. Can they make it work? That's another question.

To be honest we traded up to get sweat and lost picks and then our first rounder garners only a 2nd

Compound that with a # 2 overall garnering a 3rd makes it even worse
