Well, I hate watching them lose to Milwaukee. I knew that series there last week would be tough, and sure enough it was a sweep. That ballpark is still a house of horrors for them. Really hoping they can repay the favor to *braun and his brewers this weekend.

Volquez pitched 7, 2 ER. Only 77 pitches. He's out only because we need offense. Great start for him.

Making Gallardo throw a lot of pitches despite not scoring is paying off, since we got into their bullpen an inning earlier than otherwise.

Gaby does some yard work off the left field foul pole, taking advantage of actually facing a lefty. Snider didn't miss by much, but left it short in center field. Mercer has a multi-hit game, which hopefully boosts his confidence and gets him going a bit.

Pedro with a three-run shot to left on a 1-2 pitch from a lefty. Very nice to see. He had a strong game at the plate today.

Walks have been his problem throughout his career, and he's simply not walking people this year. His stuff is good enough that if he doesn't put people on base for free, he'll generate a lot of whiffs and bad contact.

It's much the same adjustment Liriano and Burnett made when they became Pirates. Searage got those guys into the zone, and their stuff took over from there.
