There is NO reason why the Orioles couldn't have offered something like that. That's for less money than was originally expected for Aoki. What a shame! He really could have helped the O's with his average, OBP, and speed.

I read where Rasmus wants more than $7M. If the O's bite on him at or near those levels, when they could have had Aoki for cheap, I'll be no fucking good.

Aoki for a 1 year deal for only 4 million plus a 5.5 2nd year option. Why couldn't the O's do this?
i'm glad we didn't sign him . look the person signed has to be better than alvarez , yaz and uuuuu . dearza is our lf and either pearce or davis will be our rf . so if either alvarez , uuuuuuu , yaz or walker become a force at aaa no one is blocking them . i do think we will have nolan fighting for a job in spring training if he is healthy or could stay that way he will make the team .

MLBTradeRumors:

The Orioles have inked a pair of independent league players to minor league deals, tweets Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore: first baseman Casey Haerther and outfielder Jake Luce. The 27-year-old Haerther, a fifth-rounder with the Angels in 2009, has spent the past two seasons playing with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association and batted an impressive .360/.390/.535 with 13 homers and 29 doubles in 418 plate appearances in 2014. Luce, 25, has never been in affiliated ball to this point. After struggling in his first year of indy ball, he split the 2014 season between the United Baseball League’s Brownsville Charros and the American Association’s Wichita Wingnuts (partly owned by former Tigers hurler Nate Robertson), batting a combined .313/.372/.453 with seven homers and 22 steals in 341 PAs.

Hopefully Davis can hit above the Mendoza line this year.

That, and I don't trust him at all in RF.

Management is really starting to piss me off. All they have done is lose key players from last year and sign no-name bums who will have little to no impact. And we're 1/2 way through January already. I honestly think this has a lot to do with the DD situation.

the market for outfielders was pretty bad this year .

I don't fault DD for not going after Scherzer for that amount. I honestly don't think any pitcher is worth $30 million a year, no matter how great they are.

Scherzer isn't getting $30mil per year. He's getting $15mil per for the next 14 years and the contract had a $50mil signing bonus :bullshit:

Still equates to $30 million/year for the life of the contract. For that type of ridiculous money, he better give me 30 complete game shut outs during the regular season and some in the postseason if they make it.

"The Astros are talking with free agent outfielder Colby Rasmus, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports on Twitter. There have been suggestions that Rasmus, like Ryan Vogelsong, is in Houston at present, although that remains unconfirmed."

For what it's worth.

I didn't want Sherzer for the amount of money he wanted nor did I want Ubaldo for his money, just bad business extending pitchers like that. I did however, want a solid LF, solid RF and a bonafide power hitter behind Jones. We have virtually done NOTHING to improve our team this off season and given the fact that DD has his mind in Toronto, I can't help but think he is sitting on his hands forcing Angelo's and Co to let him go.

True on Scherzer, that $$ he received is absolutely insane. However, it does open up a spot (or two) in their starting rotation. Right now they have Scherzer, Strasburg, Zimmerman, Gonzalez and Fister. Also, Tanner Roark, despite his great season, will be relegated to the pen.

Any thoughts on the O's trading for one of their starters, preferably IMO Strasburg or Roark (if DD wakes up or doesn't leave for Toronto)? And if so, what do you think they'd have to give up?

Rasmus going to Houston on a 1-year, $8M deal. At that level, the Stros can have him.

"The Orioles offered Rasmus a one-year, $7MM deal that might have included an option, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports. After missing on Rasmus, Baltimore is looking down its list for other left-handed outfield options. Schierholtz is a possibility, as is Ichiro."

"The Marlins have made a one-year, $2MM offer to Ichiro Suzuki, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. "

Nothing else left for the O's to sign now.

well roch keeps hinting that the neck thing is fixed . nolan works counts and is a tough out . he would be our 2nd best outfielder behind only aj if healthy .even if he is an indian i would love to see him stay healthy and show what he can do . but if dd is gone nolan would tilt to the o's because of all his work with brady . nolan is a good guy . i'm not saying give him shit . i'm saying let him earn it or walk . little risk with a huge upside
