Well, yeah.

He was the guy on a lousy Washington team and he played big minutes with the ball in his hands.
Fair. I still think watching him that he can make plays for others with his ability to drive and distribute.

Watching some of these summer league games, I hope these officials stay in summer league or G-league. Yikes

It’s easy to get hung up on traditional roles. The fact of the matter is that you have 3 triple threat guys who can pass shoot and drive in KD Book and Beal. 4 of the last 5 years Beal has had over 5.5 assists per game. He can play make. They’re likely looking at this for defense thinking Beal is better guarding the other teams PG than Book is or they like Book over Beal on teams SG.

I'm not really hung up on traditional roles. That's why I've said Booker should be the PG. It's more so that they need players beyond that. They need bodies. Preferably some with at least a little experience since they are already loaded down with unproven youth on their bench. They had one in Payne and now they have nothing. A trade exception doesn't help them until its filled and historically, there's plenty of times they go unfilled or partially filled with players of no substance. I see no reason to make that move now unless they already have their desired player lined up.

And the Wizards are the local team in my TV region area. I've watched more Wizards games than any non-fan ever should for that rudderless franchise. Beal is no playmaking guard. If you are depending on him for playmaking, your offense has problems no matter who is on that roster. The other part about what you said defensively doesn't really matter. That's cross matching and happens all the time. Beal can still be the 2 and guard the other team's 1 but on offense, they are far better suited with Booker as the 1.

I still think they have 3 guys who you can play through and they’ll make the right play, who can dribble pass and shoot. I don’t care what you call them. All of them will play a lot of on ball off ball if they’re using their talent the right way.

That's the thing though. It has to be used the right way. There is no system going in the NBA today where every position is seamless in which each guy can assume whatever role in the offense on a given possession. However, the league has evolved where PG-SG-SF-PF-C doesn't really apply anymore. It's more useful to think in numbers 1 thru 5 and names like guards, wings, and bigs. Short guards and playing making guards (traditional PGs) are 1s. Scoring guards, tall guards, SFs, athletic PFs, are wings (2 and 3, some 4s). Bigs are pretty explanatory.

Regardless of nomenclature, you still need designated playmaking each possession. The offense can't function at its peak if player X initiates, then its player Y, then its player Z. It's too complicated and gets congested and that's even if you have players that all have the same interchangeable skillset. The players have to be able to buy into a designated role for the offense to reach its max efficiency.

In regards to the Suns, they have 3 All Stars but with slightly different skillets with some overlap (all 3 can score). KD is wing that can function in the 3 or 4 spot. Beal is guard but plays more like a wing on offense but as a defender he's a guard because of his body. He's better suited as a 2. Booker is a guy that can actually play both guard and wing. His playmaking is good enough to where he can be the 1 on a lot of teams but his shooting/scoring is good enough to where he can be offball like he's Klay (a wing). He's the only one of the 3 though who's playmaking is strong enough to be the 1 though so if you want your offense to function the best it can, to use their talent the right way, he needs to be the lead guard. The 1. Whatever you want to call it. Beal doesn't have the creativity and vision that Booker does. He can be passable, but you won't be as good as you can be. And if you try all 3 in a share the role type of deal, history shows that usually just results in a "your turn, my turn" offense that is easily beatable come playoff time.

If I’m coaching that team, I’m screening and hunting matchups to try and employ a level of two man game between Beal/KD or Book/KD and have the other guy on the other side of the floor to beat the rotation. The other 2 guys have to be guys who can somehow impact the game despite not getting a lot of shots.

How are they getting the 4th pick?
Gotta be a 3rd or 4th or 5th team. The fact Portland is fine sitting on their thumbs and Miami could offer Martin in a deal is kinda crazy. I think in the end if Miami really wants him they will have to give everything they got, which they should

Yeah, and? That still requires decision making, knowing when to time the pass, make the right read, etc. Booker's skills are stronger in that respect. So even if you ran your offense as basic two man sets (they won't or shouldn't, they'll be more expansive), you will still want Booker with the ball in his hands more, thus making him your 1. You can still run the other pairing, but to maximize your talents on offense, the percentage of plays with Booker as lead should be higher than the others.

Just noticed Mobley is playing rookie league for the Cavs. That doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.

Same he looked like he know what he's doing. Even if Book is slightly better, it isn't some huge difference between the 2. Book isn't Steve Nash

Can’t wait for all the articles on why the Suns couldn’t get it done after they’re 1st round exits this year.

They weren't first round exits last season with kd learning on the fly. They damn sure won't be first round exit this season with book & kd having a full camp together unless they have some horrible injury luck

3rd straight game I’ve got to see Holmgren on the bench in summer league. Let’s just say he isn’t the snappiest of dressers. Flannel shirt and trucker hat all 3 times lol. Might be the same shirt. That’s ok, put the ball in the basket.
