The fact that they were forcing Kidd on whoever they hire is very worrisome IMO. I will feel like I'm already on the hot seat if I'm Vogel.

You know they have a coach in waiting if you screw up....not the best feeling
Jason Kidd isn't being brought in as a regular assistant for the head coach according to Lakersnation.com - He is being brought in as a full time specialist to work with Lonzo Ball and develop his game. What I visualize is Vogel giving Kidd various areas of LB's game and working to develop the weaker areas to round him off to a complete player

If that is true - then It is not the problem many are worried about. I do think getting a specialist to work with Ball is a good idea, but it seems like to me, they waited a few years to late and should have done that two years ago. In fact I am thinking that an assistant coach to specialize the development of the rookies on every time might be a good idea.

He worked with him last year as well.

Report: Jason Kidd helped mentor Lonzo Ball last year

So now the Jason Kidd hire makes sense. It obviously worked out

...and they certainly couldn't outright hire Kidd as the head coach, since an AD trade could include Lonzo. Then you have a head coach (instead of an assistant) with his main asset gone.

I am not a Jason Kidd fan and do not like him as a head coach or as an assistant to the head coach, but as a specialist to develop Ball sounds fundamentally correct and it also means that the Lakers plan to keep Lonzo Ball.

Do you actually believe that?

Kidd is a 2 time head coach and one of the better head coaching candidates available. Presumably, he was the Lakers next choice after Vogel.

He isn't taking a job with the Lakers just to mentor 1 player. He has a "prominent role" which means he will be associate head or top asistant in charge of the offense, or something along those lines.

I think he would foolish as hell to think he is going to be next head coach. He wasn't that good of a coach to begin with and there hasn't been any other offers and like it or not Vogel is the head coach. If that doesn't work out, then I can see them putting in Kidd, but Vogel has been in difficult positions before and proven himself according to ESPN. I am not a Jason Kidd fan and there will believe that Vogel is the head coach. It makes more sense to me for them to have hired Jason Kidd to begin with if you was correct. There was nothing in writing that forced the Lakers to hire Vogel first, but I am okay with Jason Kidd being a top assistance or whatever. It is really a worthless title to begin with - Having been in organizational positions such as the President or Vice-Pres of elected positions in some non-profit - I have found that in many cases, the C.E.O. often has his own people execute his plans and the elected vice-pres is just that - V.P. IN TITLE ONLY and no real duties

With that being said - Jason Kidd will need to kiss Vogel's ass if he really wants to be assistant head coach and second top dog. If he tries to go against his boss which is Vogel, then he is going to end up with smaller roles

Kidd was already working with Lonzo last season. This would be a continuation in an official role. Plus, Vogel is more known for his defense, and Kidd isn't being brought in as a position coach but in a major assistant coach role, so perhaps that includes offense in general?

Mentoring a player and being on staff as the top assistant coach are two entirely different things. There's plenty of retired players that mentor other players. That doesn't mean they would make good coaches. And most of those mentors don't have the track record of shady behavior as Jason Kidd. You can find any number of people to coach Lonzo that don't set up a volatile situation of your assistant gunning for his superior's job. The Lakers are literally creating a problem for themselves that is necessary at all. They are setting up obstacles for Frank Vogel to fail.

Rumor out there is the Lakers want to trade LeBron for Ben Simmons, lots of casual Laker fans are onboard with it.

Of course they are two different things, but it is a continuation (and elevation) of what has already begun is my point.

Hell no. That's all the Lakers need is to get even worse from the perimeter. Let the Sixers keep their problems to themselves.

Vogel is probably the best coach Lebron has had, which is pretty sad. I always wanted to see Lebron coached by an elite coach during his career, I guess I will never see that, but Vogel did some good things in Indiana so maybe he will be elite one day. :noidea:

As much as trading LeBron appeals to me, its not going to happen and can't happen. If the Lakers did that - Good luck in ever getting a big free agent to sign with them again. Every player in the NBA would defend LeBron and say the Lakers betrayed the man so that is not going to happen
