I think he is coming in mainly to be a specialist for Lonzo Ball, which explains why they were pushing Kidd on the new coach. In 3 years Ball won't need a specialist to work with him

Do you think maybe Jeannie told Kidd he could be head coach in waiting if he turns Lonzo into a version of himself? It's not like Vogel is going to be the long term answer there (nor is LBJ gonna pay him any attention), and Kidd had zero coaching chops when the Nets hired him then he went to Milwaukee.

This may work, everyone has to buy in. Also the Lakers will have to get another start player to take the load off of LeBron, and when the young studs are not stepping up, Also Frank Vogel isn't a bad coach, pretty solid.

Frank Vogel is a solid NBA coach. Not a difference maker, but solid.

The problem here is that he is kind of being set up to fail with the current power structure the way it is.

It has been widely speculated the LeBron strongly prefers 2 qualities in his head coaches:

1) former NBA player
2) black

Vogel is neither. But, his top assistant, Jason Kidd quite obviously is both.

I fear for Vogel that this set up is kind of similar to Blatt in Cleveland. LeBron is going to have a good relationship with Kidd. That is almost guaranteed. If Vogel is not able to earn his star's trust early on, I fear LeBron's people are going to try and push him out like they did Blatt, and like they did Walton.

I bet Vogel doesn't make it through 2 seasons.

That is a mild exaggeration of what I said. I said he strongly prefers black coaches.

But I have heard that speculation and it adds up.

-LeBron tried to get rid of Spoelstra, but Riley and Wade had Spo's back. So LeBron relented. But, some think the Heat decision to keep Spo against LeBron's wishes were the beginning of the end for him in Miami.
-LeBron did get rid of Blatt early in 2016 after reaching the Finals. He was replaced by the only head coach LeBron has really been cool with- Ty Lue
- LeBron was reportedly working behind the scenes to get rid of Walton all year

I think he would certainly respect a Popovich or a Calipari with an extensive resume. But that is what it would take and Vogel doesn't have it.
