Tough not to bring back a good player that wants to be in Buffalo. Don't know what kind of salary he's expecting though...

They resigned Hughes and he doesn't really fit the scheme, McCoy doesn't really either so I say fuck it we need LB help and Spikes is a good one

Why doesn't Hughes fit the scheme? He's essentially a 3-4 pass rushing OLB, should fit the new 3-4 well?

Because he is not great in coverage and two years ago he only played like 50 percent of the snaps.

A pass-rushing 3-4 OLB is rarely used in coverage. 2 years ago, the Bills were playing a 4-3.

Two years ago Mike Pettine was our DC and he runs a similar system as Ryan. And when Hughes was in Indy and considered a bust he also played a OLB. I am not saying that he isn't worth the contract because he has proven he can play I am just saying that he has excelled as a DE and not a LB and in Ryans base system its 3 down linemen and the Blitz come from LB and DBs.

I'm not worried about that. These days, with the 3 -wide sets aplenty, base defenses aren't what they used to be.

In 2013, Alonso was playing MLB, which only exists in the 4-3. Otherwise, he would be playing one of the ILB positions in a 3-4.
