That problem is that anyone needs to prove themselves. Only competitions that vote their results care about that.
How many games should be played? Should it be like the NFL where they play 41% of the league? So 54 week schedule, plus conference championship games, plus playing a 16 team playoff?

After the Pittsburgh debacle this year you can expect more of this. 2021 wasn’t really far enough out for a lot of options though.

A good start would be to make it clear what the required schedule is and give top P5 teams a competitive incentive to schedule the likes of UCF.
That will never happen in a sport where 3% of the teams make the playoff. Woukdnt even happen if 8 teams made it

I don't agree with FCS games at all but those teams are only played at home to everyone's benefit. I'm not arguing that FBS and FCS should be treated the same.
So things should only be fair for the teams that you deem are worthy?

No. Things should be fair for teams that are in direct competition. I'm not concerned about things being equal between FBS and FCS since they are competing separately.

If UCF is unwilling to do fair deals with other FBS teams that they view are beneath them, why should top tier P5 teams give them a fair deal?

No. Just replace committee with rules that compel and reward stronger schedules as much as desired.

And people will cry it’s not fair for teams in G5 conferences anyways. “They can’t control the teams in their conference so they should get bonus points”

I'm not defending anyone doing it and for all I know Uconn played more home games in series during time in AAC. I would be okay if teams still tried to schedule lopsided deals so long choosing play bad teams at home hurt compared to playing good teams anywhere.

Someone may always find something to complain about but if your league isn't as good, you need to compensate with OOC schedules. Not much needs to change beyond spelling out what it takes.

And how does someone know which G5 team will be good? It wasn’t that long ago that UCF was 0-12 for the season.

And teams like UCF do not want to compensate with their OOC schedule. They want the system to adjust to them, not the other way around.

They don't have any trouble scheduling the bad ones. Admittedly there is an element of luck involved in scheduling.

Whittle down teams to just one per state. Then set up an NFL type schedule.

I mean.. do we really care about education? This is football!

By playing good teams. They would rather play UNC and UConn than Alabama or Florida.

I'm betting they would play them with even deals or perhaps even lopsided deals if they knew what kind of schedule it took to make the playoffs,. For example, if an undefeated season versus opponents that are .500 or better were a playoff lock then I think they would be inclined to schedule Alabama or Florida to reach that benchmark.

Who cares about OOC games when you can just declare yourself champions? I like the UCF model, feelings not results matter.

Feelings are the reason people don't think their results aren't good enough.
