Ughhh that wouldn't surprise me at all...using the hip as an excuse when it was really money.....
I even posted last night when I heard the deal was nixed that it smelled like a jeff wilpon veto....smh

I'm not sure what to believe but I think that is a Brewers beat reporter writing that, the team has incentive to downplay an injury to Gomez so I can't fully accept that either.

I still believe Jeff Wilpon was behind last night's decision to nix the trade over $$$..and it wasn't because of a hip/leg issue, or Wheeler's situation.

Sad...very sad. If this is true, I feel very sorry for Sandy. I thought the handcuffs had been taken off...

Adam Rubin, ESPN Staff Writer:
NEW YORK (7/30)-- The Cincinnati Reds are willing to trade outfielder Jay Bruce to the New York Mets for right-hander Zack Wheeler, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

Wheeler was due to be sent with Wilmer Flores to the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez before the deal fell apart late Wednesday. Gomez reportedly is now headed to the Houston Astros.

Bruce, 28, is signed for 2016 at $12.5 million. There also is a team option for 2017 at $13 million.

Bruce entered Thursday hitting .257 with 17 homers and 56 RBIs in 346 at-bats.

I'm going on the record now as saying I do not want Jay Bruce. I don't think he's what we need, I think he's more of the same of what's already here. On top of that, he plays in a hitters park and his stats still don't jump out as being all that great. Philly, Cincy, Yankee Stadium, Colorado, I don't trust any offensive numbers coming out of those places.

He's a real decent bat and one that'll make the rest of the lineup better, he's also solid defensively....and if just parting w/ Wheeler gets it done.....I'd do it.

Good....the Brewers no longer wanted to deal w/ the Mets anyway.....and who can blame them?

Sandy just needs to focus on either Upton, Bruce +/or Cespedes now.

I prefer Cespedes over Bruce and we hang on to Wheeler. Not bad. Fulmer seems promising but we had to give up something and he's not a blue chipper.

Mets acquire OF Yoenis Céspedes from the Tigers. (via ESPN & multiple reports)


• New York solves its left field issue by trading for Cespedes, per ESPN and multiple reports. Cespedes, a solid defender, has a .829 OPS this season, compared to Mets left fielders' .710 OPS (18th in MLB). The trade came minutes before the deadline.



• Yoenis Céspedes has more home runs this month (8) than all of the Mets' right-handed hitters combined (6)
