Question, if we were to get a corner outfield bat, what happens defensively? Does Conforto or Granderson get bumped? We can't have Granderson play center. If Cuddyer comes back I'm assuming he platoons with Duda and would be a pinch hit option.

If we do get a top notch OFer, I think Conforto would be the obvious one to sit for the majority of games, while getting spot starts here and there, a la Kirk.
I wonder how much Lagares' shoulder & elbow issues is playing into the equation.

Depending on if anything happens and exactly what does, seems that the logical move would be to send Conforto back down to play every day. That's if we get another outfield bat.

Decent amount to give up for a rental. Glad it wasn't the Mets.

True, but the Royals are being smart going all-in. They know that window closes pretty quickly.

What would your thoughts be on a trade like this?

"MLB Network Radio host and former GM Jim Bowden thinks the Brewers should send Gomez and LHP Neal Cotts to the Mets for OF Juan Lagares, RHP Rafael Montero, RHP Marcos Molina and OF Brandon Nimmo."

Mets Trade Rumors: Brewers want a lot of players for Carlos Gomez | Metsblog

I'd prefer to get Gomez over Parra simply because he's signed for another year but obviously the cost would be considerably more.

I guess it's official. Flores and Wheeler for Gomez.

I think I'm on board. Flores can be replaced (although I did like him) and if one of the big arms had to go I would choose Wheeler. So potential lineup:

CF: Carlos Gomez
3B: Juan Uribe
1B: Duda
RF: Granderson
2B: Murphy
C: D'Arnaud
LF: Conforto/Cuddyer
SS: Tejada

Not bad.

Yeah. It's a great trade and I agree that Wheeler was the best arm to deal. I feel a little bad about Flores, but Gomez is exactly what we needed.:clap::clap:

Has the Mets medical staff struck again? I'm guessing the Brewers are not happy with his progress rehabbing?

From what I understand, it's Gomez's hip that is the problem.

Just heard a report that said 1 out of every 3 deals end up getting nixed for medical issues and concerns, but we only hear about a small amount of them, as most are handled privately.
Can't really blame either team for backing out though, given the circumstances of the injuries & medical reports of the 2 players....and in a way I'm glad we still have Flores & Wheeler. Perhaps something better can be done in the off season or during the winter meetings...that being said...the front office needs to move on from this, and try working another trade with another team before tomorrow if possible....and maybe this time have Colon in the deal.

Well if they already have the Brewers on the line might as well check in on Gerardo Parra.

I was thinking more about the team they're currently playing.....(Upton?.. Venable?)

I dunno what it is, but I've heard that the asking price on Upton is too high.
