I like Oleksiak, think he's the Pens' most fun defenseman besides Letang, but he's inconsistent, and with Riikola emerging a bit and Schultz on the way back, it makes sense to clear roster space and a little cap room, and Oleksiak is the most expendable not-Johnson blueliner with any substantive cap hit.

Not just A fourth round pick...

The same fourth round pick used to trade for him.

Can’t make it up.
Basically the Pens were a Pawn shop. They held on to an asset until the Stars were able to get the money (pick) back to pay off the pawn shop. Then in turn they received their older/slightly damaged product back.

Never dismiss Jim Nill’s skill at wheeling and dealing.

Seriously though I am surprised they couldn't get more for Oleksiak, as in him being part of another package deal.

Thus, Oleksiak got the Pawn Star treatment.

They had to bring in their expert on 6' 7" defensemen.

Sadly though as I was writing that comment I was thinking more of Hardcore Pawn. :L With Les loving 6'7" defensemen and overpaying for him only to sell him off for pennies on the dollar.

I guess Oleksiak was the glue that held the Pens together.

I wonder if the Pens were in on Muzzin and dumped Oleksiak to make room for him only to get trumped by the boy genius.

If so, Rutherford's having a very bad night. Should make for an interesting Tuesday.

Not sure they were in on Muzzin with Schultz coming back. Still think they are trying to upgrade so they don't have to play Garrett Wilson 10 minutes a night. Who I might add is 1/3 of the way there to Steve Halko's record.
