Yeah I think I'd pay the 1 mil to buyout Segura's last year rather than paying him 17 mil., especially if they could upgrade with a Turner or Correa. Hoskins actually is in an arbitration year so they could hold on for one more season. But if they could get something in a trade I'd be ok with that. I'm not anti-Hoskins like a lot of talk radio people seem to be but I also know that a below average fielder or 1B/DH is easy enough to replace. He's still a good hitter though so maybe there is a trade opportunity. It seems like he would fit in well on the Padres but I have no idea what they could give back in return for him.
I disagree on Rhys being a good hitter. He’s a feast or famine regular season player. Those guys will never hit in the post season. Maybe it was you, but I like the idea of moving Schwarber to 1B. I heard that the best player in Japan, a power hitting OF wants to come to Philly. That would be great. Move Schwarber to 1B and then you have new guy, Bryce, Castellanos holding down the corn outfield and DH spots.

I thought the 6 HRs in 69 ABs this postseason were useful. More importantly, what's the name of the Japan guy? That sounds interesting.

Yep, Good move. The Phillies sign Nola to an extension but are going to let Eflin walk. There are too many better FA pitchers out there the Phillies can bring-in and be a better ball club because of it.

Actually, it was Eflin’s decision not the Phillies. He’s walking away from 15 million. No idea what he’s thinking.

Obviously he thinks he can get more from somebody else.
He’s nuts then. Everybody in baseball just saw the Phillies pitching playoff bullpen games because of a lack of reliable starters. And on top of that, he’s always injured.

I don't know the names but they need 2 starters, a closer, an 8th inning guy and 2 extra arms for when half those guys suck. So that's 6 total.

Better not gut the lineup to do it either. Lineup needs a better flow to it. I can't see batting Castellanos higher than 6th if the lineup is going to improve. Too many swings and misses.

Is Harper going to play RF again?

The Phillies are deciding right now whether Harper needs elbow surgery or not. After that, I am sure they will evaluate him for where he will play next season.

The Astros-Phillies was the least watched World Series on record, according to Sports Media Watch except for the neutral-site 2020 World Series during the COVID pandemic.

The six games averaged 11,784,000 on Fox, down 1.3% from the 11,940,000 for the Atlanta Braves' six-game win over the Astros last year and ahead of only the 9,946,000 for the Los Angeles Dodgers' six-game victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.

The 12,550,000 viewers for Game 6 made it the least-watched Game 6 on record, according to SMW. The UGA-Tennessee game beat all six World Series game telecasts. And this was still the most-streamed World Series in Fox history.

TV viewership has steadily declined over the years. The graph below shows the average rating (in percentage) and average number of viewers (in millions) for each World Series since 1973

The Dildoes didn't help that issue by playing like turds that went home early beginning in Game 4.

You’re a weird dude. The Phillies over achieved and should be praised. Calling them dildoes is cheesy and dumb. They lost to the better baseball team. No shame in that.

You know, retro, the Phillies really did overachieve. No one could have dreamed that based on the off and on pitching, hitting, and even defense which was much criticized by us here, that the team could go more than a few games into October if at all. Even with a better team next year, I'm not sure Phils will pull off the same thing in '23. In the end, Astros pitching shut the Phillies down when it counted.

Phil’s arguably beat the better team 3 times but couldn’t do it a 4th.

With a ton of cash, perhaps Dombrowski will do the right thing and find some really good Pitchers to give some help to Nola and Wheels and have a deeper rotation like the Astros.
