At least this is what Todd McShay thinks. I tend to disagree with McShay on principle though, so for whats its worth.

i really dont think there is either . if elite is your standard then there isnt one and years from now you could be talking about the bust o/lineman we drafted in 15 because he made only one pro bowl and took 2 years to actually play

if we stay at 5 i think the best value for us is at olb with gregory , ray or beasley and i favor ray

if we trade down then o/line could be in play

all subject to change after sr bowl game and combine (east west shrine too )

If we were looking for a stud LT, I might be tempted to agree. But even then I think there are atleast 2-3 who would merit a top ten pick grade. And if we get either of the thre Im thinking of, they should be day one starters for us at RT and barring any odd health issues should be 5 year starters at a minimum at the position.

Hoping Minnesota @11 or Cleveland @12 come calling for Cooper. Keep hearing Winston is coming back which could really hamper our ability to trade down.

They said the same thing in the 2011 draft when Dallas drafted Tyrone Smith at number 9.

I've said all along that reaching to fill a need is always a mistake. As George Young once said you need to leave your depth chart out of the draft room to have a quality draft.

As bad as the need is for OL it's equally bad on defense. So I'm all about finding that edge rusher that we need to compliment Kerrigan, then fill the other needs via later picks and FA. If we get a great offer to drop down to the mid-first round and select an OT that merits that spot I'm cool with that too. But to take a tackle at 5 just to take a tackle is a mistake.

Regardless of who you draft, you have to hit on that pick that high.
If one does not stand out more than the other then you can hit on a pick that also fills a need.

Guys, some times you need to make the obvious pick that while not as sexy, actually fits your needs and helps the team more. Our greatest need period is O-line. While there is no OT that "Should go #1 if not for other players", there are about three who WOULD fill a critical need and are worth the pick we currently have. Every one screaming we should trade down or go after the edge rusher will likely be the same people screaming for blood if we go into the season with Tyler Polumbus or some one of that level starting at RT again. If we dont trade down, or take the sexy Pass rusher, but grab a solid RT at #5, I will be perfectly content.

Our biggest need is defense. Drafing an edge rusher does not mean they go into next season with Tyler Polumbus. If they take the trade down route that will still enable them to find one of the top OTs in the draft. I can guarantee they will upgrade the RT position and it does not have to be with the #5 pick

Good, so this will mean the Lions might get OL value at 23???

Some kid always soars to the forefront. Just depends on if he is Jason Smith or a Matt Kalil

If we can't find a trade partner you have to bite the bullet and take a RT at 5 unless by some miracle Williams is sitting there.

There are at least 5 Tackles coming out this draft that are rated Round 1 talent (WalterFootball.com: 2015 NFL Draft: Offensive Tackle Rankings). Not all will go in round 1. Not sure why some feel we HAVE to take a RT with our 5th pick. There is going to be very good tackle prospects still available in R2 with the 41 pick.

Now, I feel that there are actually 2 tackles that do merit a top 10 pick, Peat and scherff. I would be OK if we took either of them with the 5th, but I still think our best outcome will be if we can find a trade partner to trade back 10 picks or so.

I dont really care who we draft...I just want a player in a NEED position that can start from day 1......I am suprised that everyone is giving up on Mosses already...Last year everyone was Elated we got him in the 3rd, when many felt he should be higher......Maybe this offseason he will have that improvement????

well lets say we sign a RT and guard in free agency I would be extremely happy with Williams or Gregory at 5

Smart teams are drafting starters, and signing backups in FA. I still hold out hope that one day we become SMART.

Bulaga and Iupati would be smart moves don't know what the hell you are talking about giving us options of selecting BPA or trading down gaining more picks

Both would also cost more and be here less time than a drafted player at their respective positions. As far as trading down, again dude, I would currently take a very good ten year starter at RT over a very good pass rusher. And thats actually what we are talking about here.

A RT? I wouldn't. A LT I would. RTs can be found easier than very good pass rushers.

Then why have we been bitching about the position since 2009?? You would think in roughly six seasons we would have found one??

As much as I hate giving them any credit at all, Dallas finally did it right. And we would be prudent to follow their lead on this one.

In fact the last THREE O-lineman they took, every one said they over drafted and didnt get good value. Me included on that.

For a variety of reason to include a crippling cap penalty, a bad trade for RG3, and poor player evaluation.

I responded theoretically. As I stated above, I'm ok if we take one of 2 tackles with our first pick.
