I think what many people don't know about sanchez is that he isnt just some high school coach. He came from one of the top high school programs in the country. Gorman has been a powerhouse in high school football, nationally. More importantly he brings the financial backing of one of the richest families in vegas in the Fertitas. They already donated over 30 million when he was hired and are reaching out to develop a booster program that we have never had here before. For football anyway, there has been some boosters for basketball for a long time.
I am trying to be optimistic more than anything else, but it would be nice to at least be relevant in the conference.

So where do college coaches come from?

Art Briles, Gus Malzahn, and Hugh Freeze were high school coaches not all that long ago. Those dudes have done well. Briles is an amazing coach, easily one of the best in the business, and Malzahn is an offensive genius.

Thats my point. They dont just start in college, or jump from pop warner, they come from high school. If UNLV didnt have such a fuck OOC schedule, I would be more excited, but I see some serious ass whoopins early.

I like your all-conference picks by the way, Oly. I'll try to get mine out at some point when I have a moment. One thing to note is that JoJo Natson, the stud return man and all-purpose guy has been kicked off of Utah State's team for a series of infractions over the years. They finally had enough and gave him the heave ho. They didn't specify as to the exact reason which is typical, but evidently they had experienced problems with him for a long time and the icing on the cake was his decision to steal/divert scholarship funds that were intended to go to one of his teammates. Sounds like a real quality guy, well more like an idiot. He was supposed to be a senior this coming season. You'd think he would have grown up by now, but he may just be a bad human being in general.

So where do college coaches come from?
College coaches more often come from college. Graduate assistants to assistant position coaches to position coaches to coordinators to coaches. its a much more common path.

I get that, but like I said, Gorman isnt just an average high school program, and he brought boosters with him. Its a little different in many ways

Art Briles was RB coach fro 2 years befor taking over as a head coach
Malzahn was assistant/position/coordinator for 6 years at various programs before becoming a head coach
Freeze was a position coach then head at a NAIA then OC then head coach
none just went HS to College head coach

Todd Dodge was at South Lake Carroll in Tx won 4 state titles in 7 years and then he never won more than 2 games in a season at North Texas.

Sanchez is only the 4th ever coach to go from HS to FBS head coach.
i already mentioned Dodge but the others are just as listless.
Bob Commings 74-78 at Iowa never won more than 5 games in a season
Gerry Faust 81-85 at Notre Dame and 86-94 at Akron never won more than 7 games in a season won multiple HS titles in Ohio.
