The more I think about it, the more ok I'd be with sitting tight with Tejada at SS. Rather than overpay a free agent or attempt to trade we could wait until next offseason when there is a deep SS class. 2014 is a bit of a dead season anyway, they'll be competitive but by no means will they be serious contenders. I'd prefer to be patient and really go all out for 2015.

Also, we're getting some interest for Ike and Murphy but not as much as we should. Murphy is a very good player, a .280 hitter that is a super utility guy, still relatively young, we should be getting very solid value back for him and I just haven't heard much about what the return packages would be. Ike is only 26 and hit 32 home runs a year ago, you can't undersell that. Maybe wait until the season begins and see if they can sell high near the deadline to a team desperate to contend. Just look at last year, we got Vic Black and a potential SS/2B of the future for 2 aging players with expiring contracts.

If he asked Baltimore for Bundy in exchange for Murphy, he wont deal him at all. Nobody will pay a high price for a mediocre 2B.

The Brewers are working to get a deal done with free-agent 1B Corey Hart (Haudricourt, Dec. 10). However, if he doesn’t decide by the end of the Winter Meetings, they will push to acquire Mets 1B Ike Davis (Martino, Rubin, Dec. 10).

12:16 pm: The Mets are trying to leave the Winter Meetings without Ike Davis, ‘one way or another,’ according to friends of MetsBlog in Orlando (Cerrone, Dec. 11).
12:15 pm: There are more teams interested in Marlins 1B Logan Morrison than Davis, according to people with knowledge of the market (Cerrone, Dec. 11).

As for Ike, he should be gone by next week it seems.

12:42 pm: The Mets are firmly asking the Brewers for RHP Tyler Thornburg in a deal for Davis (McCalvy, Dec. 11).

Don't know much about this guy at all.

And in regards to Drew, if we can shed a contract(Ike/Murphy) we are willing to surrender a pick to sign him.

The Mets are willing to give up their top draft pick (a third rounder) to sign free-agent Stephen Drew, but they’ll need to free up payroll to be able to sign him (McAdam, Dec. 10).

Mariners trade for Logan Morrison of the Marlins and sign Corey Hart. That's two available firstbaseman off the market, hopefully that gets the ball rolling on an Ike to Milwaukee trade. They were interested but were waiting on Corey Hart's decision.

Right? Did they sell the team to some oil baron with a bottomless pit of money? Whatever, if it helps us I'm all for it.

Colon, 2 years $20 million, not crazy about this one. I won't say I full on 100% hate it but I could very easily be swayed in that direction.

I'm coming around on it. If he can come close to approaching those numbers from the past 3 years I'll take it. He's a stopgap to help eat innings until Harvey is close to coming back and to buy time/insurance for our young arms. If Harvey is showing signs of being good to go toward the end of this year (meaning everything is on schedule and 2015 looks like a greenlight) then we can always move him.

As of now it's rumored the Mets have about $5 million left to spend so moving Ike and/or Murphy would free up a decent amount if we want to add a SS or some bullpen arms.

Soooooooo I was wrong, guess we did want Colon after all. So weird how yesterday it's reported the price is too high for one year, then come out and sign him at that price, with an additional year. Baffling.

Guess I will eventually come around to this signing.

9:20 am: Mets like Drew for two or three years, but believe he will stay in Boston (Sherman).

Hopefully we can convince him to leave Boston and join us.

One thing I do kind of like is Sandy said he's not simply going to move players for the sake of moving them. He said we're not in the business of giving away players, which means he's trying to maximize the return for the guys available. Which is good because I think teams will cave eventually.

Well meetings came to an end today. Happy to have left with Granderson and Colon, now to see what they do with Ike and Murphy. Probably not anytime soon will they be moved. Hopefully we can land Drew or acquire a guy like Lowrie/Escobar/Cabrera

Interesting signing. Colon was awesome last year. At age 40 and with his PED suspension last year, I can understand skepticism about him going forward. To me, however, he seems to pitch very effortlessly, which could favor him holding up a couple more years.

If we fail to move Murphy (which I'd be ok with since he's been our most consistent player), who is the odd man out, Eric Young or Lagares? Do they keep an OF rotation going with Lagares as the 4th or does Lagares go to AAA? Offensively Eric Young is the more productive player and is the only thing we have close to a leadoff man.

Lagares probably goes back over to Vegas. I'm fine with that.

Also here is a nice read up on Colon and the signing.
