So it begins tomorrow, Sandy will be addressing the media tonight at 6. Early reports are saying that one of Davis/Duda will be moved before the meetings are over. Andy Martino of the Daily News say they prefer to move Davis, which pisses me off. Davis is better than Duda who is just a terrible baseball player. Davis at least provides us will solid defense and potential 30 HR guy. Duda is awful in the field and a joke in the OF, but more teams will be interested in potential outbreak from Davis, ala Chris Davis, so they will want him more.

As for a SS I would love for us to sign Drew or trade for one of Lowrie/Escobar via trade. SP, we are one of 8 teams interested in Johan Santana, though i'm not against it, just think we should move on from him. I like Bartolo Colon who had a solid year in Oakland this past season, Arroyo is an option as well but don't think they will go three years for him.

On phone so can't post the tweet, but a guy from Metsblog will be putting up an article soon based on his talks with Ken Rosenthal and saying how he doesn't believe the Mets are strapped for cash and they may not be done spending.

This week will be interesting to say the least. What are your thoughts? What do you wanna see done?

Interview with Rosenthal is on Metsblog right now, listening now.

Rosenthal says expect changes on the right side of the infield and that Duda, Davis and Murphy will not be on the same team next year. Also how that fourth year to Granderson looked him up, but the Mets wanted three. Also talks about Young platooning last year with Oakland and getting used to it for the first time, but still thinks he could be a good power guy with over 600 at bats for us.

He alao says that they will spend if they feel the need to, he expects us to be out there doing things and improving the roster.

I certainly hope they'll spend more to bring in some quality arms and bats.
If the Wilponzi's aren't ready to loosen their wallets to increase the payroll, they should be forced by league referendum to sell the team...or at least cease their majority stranglehold and bring in more investors and baseball savvy owners.

Honestly I think Sang and Co. Leave the meetings with a trade and a new SP. Feel confident.

I honestly think it will be more of the same. They only signed Granderson so the owner and alderson can say he look we are spending money.

Ultimately though we will just throw moderate money at average guys on one year deals.

Well Idk if we will make another Granderson-type signing, but do think we will make minor ones.
But our biggest moves will come via the trade, IMO.
Alderson said today that he doesn't look at Young Jr as a reserve player, my guess is he wants him in the lineup everyday at 2B which could mean the end of Murph-Dog here, which i'm okay with if it gives us an upgrade elsewhere.
One of Duda/Ike will be moved this week, I hope it's Duda because he blows and Ike is younger and a ton more potential.
Also said that if they can't find a SS via trade, since they don't plan on adding a big contract like Drew unless we move a contract, that Tejada may be the everyday SS next year. Not a fan of that at all. Really think we should look to move Duda/Davis in a package for Yunel Escobar or Jed Lowrie or even Miller from Seattle. Though it seems like they wanna move Franklin instead, but he's a 2B

I'll say it again.....It has got to be either Duda or Ike on the outs....preferably it's duda...tho Ike may be the better trade piece to bring in more value/quality, and I'm not so sure which other teams are actually or even aggressively looking for a first baseman.

I have a gut feeling this will be Murph's break out season, so I'm hesitant to trade him too....and he can also play 1B if need be, as a stop gap. And the thing about him is, he can hit in any part of the lineup effectively.

Only reason I would hate to see Murphy leaving is that outside of Wright, he is our most consistent hitter. Will hover around .295-.310 all year and isn't an easy out by any means. But if it will improve the ball club elsewhere, I say we go for it.

The Mets intend to find a trade partner for either 1B Ike Davis or 1B Lucas Duda during the Winter Meetings this week (Carig, Dec. 8).
The Rays, Brewers, Pirates, Astros, Orioles and Rockies have reportedly all been connected to Davis or Duda this winter.
“I won’t tell you what our intentions are, but hopefully it’ll resolve itself shortly,” Sandy Alderson said Sunday about his first base situation.

The Mets reportedly showed interest in free-agent starting pitcher Bartolo Colon, but may back off due to his asking price…

1:30 pm: The Mets are not likely players for Colon, given his price range ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410113888336609280[/MEDIA]"]Martino[/ame]).
1:25 pm: The Mets had a meeting today with the agent for Colon ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410110836447780864[/MEDIA]"]Murti[/ame]).

This just in:

Phillies Actively Shopping Domonic Brown

By Steve Adams [December 9, 2013 at 12:03pm CST]
The Phillies are "actively shopping" Domonic Brown with an eye toward selling high on him in an effort to acquire controllable young pitching, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter).
Brown, 26, batted .272/.324/.494 with 27 home runs in a breakout campaign for the Phillies in 2013 after being passed over for lackluster outfield options in seasons prior. Brown can be controlled through the 2017 season and isn't arbitration eligible until next winter, so any team acquiring his services would be getting four years of team control.
However, he's graded out as a poor defensive left fielder and showed a sizable platoon split in 2013. Brown batted a strong .281/.336/.521 line with 21 of his homers against right-handed pitching this season but hit just .252/.296/.429 with six homers against lefties.

5:44 pm: The Brewers are among four teams engaged in talks with the Mets about Davis ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410178053415768064[/MEDIA]"]Carig[/ame]).
4:46 pm: The Rays interest in Davis is real, but “lukewarm” ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410163507804381184[/MEDIA]"]Martino[/ame]).
4:35 pm: The Mets and Brewers met today to talk about Davis and Duda ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410157480451522561[/MEDIA]"]McCalvy[/ame]).
2:45 pm: Rays manager Joe Maddon would like to acquire a left-handed hitting first baseman this winter, he told SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio.

My best guess is Davis is gone by Wednesday afternoon.

Now on the Murphy front.

The Mets are listening to offers and may look to trade Daniel Murphy, according to multiple reports…

5:10 pm: In a one-for-one deal for Murphy, the Mets can expect a mid-rotation starting pitcher, according to people familiar with the market for second baseman ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]410169972825276416[/MEDIA]"]Cerrone[/ame]).

The Mets have shown interest in signing free agent RHP Mitchell Boggs (Sherman).

In 27 games with the Cardinals and Rockies in 2013, Boggs, 29, went 0-3 with an 8.10 ERA, allowing 28 hits, 20 walks, and five home runs with 16 strikeouts in only 23 1/3 innings.

The Rockies non-tendered Boggs last week – he earned $1.48 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility in 2013, but was sent to the minor leagues by the Cardinals in May, and traded to the Rockies in July.

I just don't see them trading for him when we already have 4 OF's in the mix. I have been preaching for a Kemp deal for two years now, but it wont happen.

Still think Ike will be dealt by Wednesday. We're not signing Colon since he wants 7-10M for one year. Murphy may end up not being dealt at all. We shall see what happens.

Also wouldn't mind Motte or Perez for the bullpen.
